We've been having a discussion at our club about the fact that less & less cricketers seem to be getting involved in the going's on of the club.
If somebody posts some banter on the club Facebook page it will get 50 replies but if you ask people to confirm they're attending Presentation Night we get 20 replies at best.
So...I'm going to get the Club Members to (hopefully) answer a survey on how we should communicate with them & what/when we should be doing things.
Does anybody have any useful suggestions of what I should ask or what makes a difference to you at your club?

People like to be the 'stars' and just turn up, play, get to bat (high) or bat and bowl etc.. then go home. Few people have ever been interested in actually doing things for others and even less nowadays as 'we' as anyone under 35 are more selfish than ever.

We like other clubs use texts, email, play cricket, twitter and farcebook but it's still the same few that comment etc.. most of the members really do unfortunately want to turn up, moan if they don't get to do what they want and then go home.

For me its just a case of not enough hours in the day to get more involved. Both my son and I play and train on different days, my wife is a karate instructor and my daughter seems to be following in her footsteps.

So when you throw work, school, everybody's sports & family time into the mix I just don't have the time I would like to spend doing club bits and bobs.

I think it's a case of not knowing what people want from their club as they don't communicate. I'm sure most clubs have a small section of do-ers but it's the problem of knowing what they want the do-ers to do?

We had a similar thing.

The chairman got annoyed that no one replied to his Facebook posts (after being told to get facebook).

But he only advertised the agm on there and 40 plus turn up. So he agreed people were watching and just not replying.


We then ran a question on which social media platform was best for communication.  Unfortunately banter took over and snap chat,  as long as it included breast should be the format of our club......

An official snap chat has yet to be formed.





You are right, less and less do stuff at a club. My duties got out of hand. So refused to do anything last year in protest. It went wrong.
So this year I am back as midweek secretary, treasurer, selection committee for both sides, 1st xi captain. Plus midweek ground prep/covers/cancellation guy. I'm also on the midweeks league committee.
add sat 1st xi vice captain. And I have a busy season ahead. But it's worth it to.help keep the club running (and I know I only do a fraction of what others do).

getting youths to do stuff is difficult, but we are managing. Sunday side joint captains are 21 and 23 next year, and both are off to the sunday league agm on Monday.

I'm taking the view that maybe we need to change the way we communicate or what we do to try & get people to engage. Just annoying when you can see 100 people view your message to them on Facebook but only 20 reply!
