Bloke at my club had this happen to one of his bats. He didn't really seem to care, but I said I thought I'd give it a go and try and fix it for him. Any tips on what I could do? Was just thinking of gluing it as the piece that broke off isn't big enough to have dowel put through it. Will glue hold though?

Yup, glue and then tape it just for that extra bit of protection.

Glue it with wood glue, tape or clamp for 48hr and then sand and oil, apply a scuff sheet and then put some tape across he blade should be ok mate.

Yes first remove any wood frays  from bat and broken piece using sandpaper to allow broken piece to seat on bat apply PVA undiluted wood glue to both bat and broken piece then do as suggested clamp leave for 48 hours then remove clamp clean off any excess glue residue fit face sheet apply   fibre glass tape tightly to at least the full length of the repair otherwise a repair that long will probably fail upon use .
But as always with glue repairs there is no guarantee how long it will last.

Glued it up and then gave it a nice sanding over the whole face as there were some other surface cracks too. Still have to put a facing on it and tape it up, but it looks pretty good. Gave it a decent hit with the mallet and it didn't feel any different, but hard to tell how long the repair will last
