Maybe it's a tactic. there are a few fatties in my club (including me) and we would do loads better if we subbed them for fit, fast youngsters.

Why would South Africa 'tactically' send de Kock and du Plessis to hospital? de Villiers has a bad back, hence why de Kock was given his chance in the Test side. And du Plessis is the best fielder in South Africa.

Quite sure he was playing minor counties at the time and now has a contract up at Notts of some sorts? If I remember correctly I also have a suspicion he was playing for something like the MCC academy at the time.

That may explain a little. I had played against him twice midweek that season. And just presumed he was with that side sats. But he may well have just been playing for his original club while up here.

People pay top money to watch international matches and West Indies either serve up the dross displayed in Centurion, or they axe all their best players...

South Africa have called up Rilee Rossouw as a replacement for the injured Quinton de Kock. Rossouw is also injured, so it could be a historic Test debut for Temba Bavuma - first pure black South African batsman.

Robin Peterson was injured in training and is out for the series. It meant a recall for Imran Tahir...

Port Elizabeth is a much slower surface than Centurion so a spinner is vital. Tahir will replace Kyle Abbott. Temba Bavuma will debut at 7. So South Africa's 6/7 will be an area WI could target if they make early inroads.

Petersen, Elgar, du Plessis, Amla(c), de Villier(w/k), van Zyl, Bavuma, Philander, Steyn, Morkel and Tahir.

West Indies have made one change Shannon Gabriel replaces the injured Kemar Roach.

Smith, Brathwaite, Johnson, Samuels, Chanderpaul, Blackwood, Ramdin(c) (w/k), Taylor, Benn, Gabriel and Cottrell.

Benn could influence this game if his batsmen put up some runs.

A truly dreadful day for the Windies. Both Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis offered up numerous chances which the Windies didn't bother taking.

A very disappointing fielding effort.

That said Elgar registered a career best 121, his third Test hundred. Faf is 99* and Amla is 15*.

Poor from the other opener though, and both faf and elgar offered up chances any decent side would gobble.. worrying for saffas that their top 3 looks so vulnerable. Luckily SA have Amla and AB in the middle order which is more than enough against most teams.

Sa really do have a poor opening partnership. I can't see any bowling attack having sleepless nights about bowling at that pair.


Good job ab and am a carry rest of side. Means they haven't quote yet been hit by the loss of the great kallis either

Stiaan van Zyl will move up to open with Dean Elgar.

Faf du Plessuis has been in good form in 2014, just tapered off during the recent ODI series with Australia. An ugly(and lucky) hundred should get him back to his best.

Amla and AB. Then when fit again de Kock and Duminy. Batting should be a lot more solid.

Reckon even Peterson will get a 100 in the last test against this West Indies line up.
Ramdin has got to be a brain dead captain. 25 overs from a spinner on the opening day after fielding first!
Then waiting till the last over before taking the new ball.

Don't think West Indies will win a session all series at this rate. It's going to be as one sided as the Aussies getting battered by pakistan

Got to be the worst West Indian side in test match history, really sad to see. I grew up when they were in their pomp, and the legends of the day must wonder what has happened!

Really hope that they can be a force again, but fear that they are competing with Bangladesh for the title as worst side.
