How did you "wipe" if you don't mind me asking? Remember a massive number 2 at Thame a few years and blocking the toilet. We didn't like Thame at the time but weren't good enough to beat them at there place, so it felt like a victory of sorts.

All this talk of sledging did set my mind racing.

We (I) got some fearful stick against a wetherby oppo one year. They turned down every plumb LBW in sight which got them 100 runs more than they deserved, we would of knocked them over for 30 odd otherwise. They had us at 50 odd for 5 chasing 120. I got a lifter and dropped my hands, just brushing the glove on the way. The appeal went up, I expect to be given out but our umpire hadn't seen or heard it. I don't walk on the principle that I've had so many rubbish decisions in the past I'm due something back. I carried on but got a fearful ear bashing during and after the game. Lucky for me I've played against decent cricketers and this amateur chirping for just boring. We won by 5 wickets and got ready for the re-match...

They come, we smacked up 340 odd in 45 overs. One guy got a ton, forum member Fros holed out on 97, the next guy in hit the oppo skipper (who likes a chirp) 27 in one over (4 sixes) and they crawled to 140-5 thanks to some dropped catches and us having to bowl spin in the fading light. As the oppo skipper came out of the changing room I said "fancy a beer, we have some food for you guys at the pub", he replied "no we want to get back and watch the 1st XI" - in near darkness 30 minutes away from the ground!

You know you've broken somebody when they can't even make a decent excuse up.

It may be a bit cheesy to some, but my most satisfying moment has to be playing my first match after my battle with Testicular Cancer. It was my Club's last match of 2013 and just 2 weeks after my last round of chemotherapy, made a duck and fielded the ball once for an entire 40over game, but I couldn't have cared less. Just being back out that field was as good as scoring any hundred or taking a five for or hitting the winning runs.

I have had a couple of good moments. Took a screamer of a catch on debut for my old sides 1st XI that was subsequently immortalised in the book 'A Last English Summer' by famous cricket writer Duncan Hamilton. Proved to be the turning point of the game which we went on to win, haven't even come close to taking any better and I'm not a terrible fielder.

I had a particular horrible spell where the radar had gone for a couple of months and eventually found my way down to the 3rd XI in which I was the oldest player by some distance at 23 other than the 52 year old skipper. Bowled well (3fa or something) and hit 30 odd runs batting at 11 to give that side their first win in 2 years, shame that our skipper was the only bloke old enough to buy me a beer!

Another more recent one that will live with me forever was keeping in a friendly game. They had a stocky older West Indian bloke batting and our offie bowler who is quite susceptible to a bit of tap is on. As he releases the ball, the batsman shouts in his West Indian accent, 'Oh, don' bowl der mann!' and subsequently plowed this ball off a half decent length about 60 yards over the long on boundary into the field. I was in tears laughing.

I spend half of my innings talking to myself and commentating on my batting, the bowling and making sound effects when I hit the ball. Fielders think im a right oddball.

I've been in a few cup winning teams with my brothers as well.

And anytime I manage to be batting at the end when we win.

we play a side home and away on tour each year. never won at their place and only won once at home. we restricted them to about 200 from 40 overs. we lost an early wicket me and the no.3 took the score onto 165-1 then had a collapse the no.11 facing the last over with 3 to win plays a massive agricultural and put the ball in the field next door

my dad wasn't dismissed last season only played a handful of games. first game this season he comes in to bat i get him caught behind second bowler with a lovely away swinger

Mine was a school game (20 year ago), I captained our team and took my rightful spot at slip. Playing our local rivals, this stocky lad came in about number 5. After he blocked the first ball i said to the bowler I'll move out of first slip to deep square and bring point backward. The bowler didn't agree, but I persuaded him. Next ball the batsman stuck it straight down my throat at deep square, I didn't move an inch. My PE teacher umpiring at the bowlers end thought I was a young Mike Brearly, what he didn't know was this stocky lad played in my clubs U15 team which I also captained and I knew exactly where the 2nd ball was going! Still it felt great!

How did you "wipe" if you don't mind me asking?

I used one of my socks and then slung it into the state school next door. It was very soft actually, I'm amazed more people don't wipe with socks.

@RF.....But there is nearly a whole team of you to begin with! I remember your dad batting 20 years ago.... it was boundary or out! well maybe thats a bit of injustice.

Having not been in your shoes i can't imagine what it was like but i certainly understand why its up there as the most memorable moment for you!

I could probably keep getting my memory jogged forever on this thread...

Reminds me of when I put on 200 odd with my brother. Given I ground out 50 odd not out and he looked on another level smashing Beaconsfield to every part of the ground for 150*, you could call it frustrating and satisfying! Could'nt even run him out as he mainly dealt in boundaries

All these have made me think of other ones I've enjoyed, some only last season, some a bit longer ago.

My first one was my first league run as a 13 year old. inwalked off 1* with my best mate and my Dad had one of his "proud parent moments".

Another one was against a Uni team, they'd reduced us to not many for 5 with their Chinese chinaman bowling (really!) and first ball I put a 6 straight back over his head.

Last season we had a guy in his mid 20s join the club. He'd never played before but is dead keen and a top bloke. In his first game I took a Worldie of a catch (one handed over my head at square leg). More special than the catch it was the guys first wicket and that made his day!


It's funny how the little things seem so meaningful after the event

Another one was batting for an hour and a half for 12*.
I went in at 10 with 65 on the board, the captain on 42*. I hung around as he blasted a century from 46 balls! It was awesome to watch. We were all out for 130 odd but I was delighted that I'd helped a mate get his first hundred as skipper!
