My latest refurb project

Evening all

Just got back from a net session and I've got a new refurb project to work on!

This is one of our juniors bats. His mum panicked when he said it was broken and asked "will it be expensive".
Being the soft touch I am I've taken it and quoted £10

I didn't get any with the scuff sheet on, but it was hiding a multitude of sins!

i'm sure it will come up nice but for 10 squids they won't know what a bargain they got!

I didn't know the edge had gone too, that was a surprise under the scuff sheet!

And knowing the family I have a soft spot for them so was always going to give them mates rates haha

Rule number one, get the sheet off before offering an opinion on the damage and/or a quote ;)

Plenty of gremlins have been found under a sheet when the customer has just said 'quick sand and clean up mate, that won't cost much will it?'

Don't worry about any minor collateral damage when removing the sheet without a hair-dryer etc (ive never done used one) - just peel the sheet from edge to edge carefully and any minor willow strip will sand out.

Cam - slightly off-topic, but how do you make the knobby bit at the top of your SS handle - is there a thread on it somewhere?

So a day into the refurb and I've made a fair bit of progress I think!

Last night I glued the edge so that was set for today. I've then given my new orbital sander it's first run, and it's a dream!

I've got the willow (almost) all one colour, saved the stickers as best I could and glued the toe. That's currently setting, with the plan for tomorrow being to take the tape off, give it a final fine sanding and apply a coat of oil.

By next Friday I plan to have applied shoe goo to the toe (to protect the repair and keep moisture out), apply a new scuff sheet and replace the grip. The lad doesn't know what a bargain he's getting here!

Looks a good job mate, nice to see a working area as messy as my own, although not quite as well stocked on the alcohol front ;)

And it's done!  :D







Edge repair seemed to be solid enough, I've taped the toe just as an extra bit of support (the crack/split had travelled a fair way up the bat) and there's shoe goo to protect the repair.
Doesn't look bad, if I do say so myself  ;)

And lastly, the compulsory picture with the woofer in it!

With that knobbly bit at the top with the cut off grip. Does that stop the grip from slipping up/ down? Cheers

Not really, it's more so I know where I'm gripping the bat than anything else
