"ast summer, Sky Sports asked King to make a series of replica bats for an experiment conducted by Mike Atherton and Andrew Strauss. King made five, each one echoing a different era of cricket, from the days of Grace to the present season. Atherton and Strauss discovered that the performance when the ball was struck in the centre of the bat was almost the same. The differences came when the connection was less good, made low down or high up or towards one or other of the edges. While older bats demanded purity, the bats of the 21st century were far more forgiving."

Let's be honest, while he is correct the weight of a 'thin' bat to a 'thick' bat will still result in the ball going the same distance. If much rather a ball go slightly less distance more of the time than a long way fewer times. This sums up why the big bats have become so popular.

Also makes an interesting point about grains not making much difference.

Funny how he also talks about bats becoming more than just a piece of wood used to hit a ball and how people start to want a bat to be so much more than just its basic purpose.

Some people on here buy a bat and never even hit a ball with them.

Ken for the last 7 years I have been belting on about coverage of a bat over middle.

To judge a bat please tell me people have worked out coverage of Middle.

I have come across few bits that do not have a sweet spot no matter who pressed them.

Coverage comes with more wood mind.

Tap up a handled press cleft people will understand how bats are constructed then.

Your point being?

Over the past 12 months I've purchased 17 bats and had about 40 pass through my hands, and a majority of them I didn't hit a ball with it other than tapping up.
Just because I bought a all those bats it doesn't mean I intended to use them all...
