Js Wrights Do there grade we do ours mate.

However please read again we tend not to sell half heartwood Pro grade is usually reserved for the pro,

Grade of willow is subjective to the company and as this willow is clean without blemish on the playing area it a tough one but yes would be grade 1.

Some people love this i personally normally like only white willow so i guess this type of willow falls into a strange category

Just to be clear Ali these clefts are all grade 1 rated by us.

If a customer asks for half heartwood 3 stripe and sometimes crown we will supply these depending on what is availible density wise.

But we would only put 2 tone heartwood in a 3 stripe if a customer wanted it.

The oversized cleft is a crown cleft the one with the 3 on it.

All the clefts shown are low density.

The quality of the clefts shown are not common without bar stain or tiny blemishes these are rare.

Look at the world cup many le and so forth are two tone as I said these are clean and quite rare to get such clean

Although my last two bats where more than half heartwood and both 3 stripes my normal prefrance is 7-9 grains white williow.

Only reason I showed these are for what ever reason pro seem to be back on the two tone platter once again

As per your pm I have to check but think the two heartwood two tones may hAve already gone.

It really for people who want this there only 3 I think in our whole stack of grade 1 and as I said some like this williow but most prefer white wood.

I think it's right for manufacturers to grade clefts themselves after they've tidied them up a bit. It's another step in the process.

More get downgraded than up trust me on that when you plaine a cleft all sorts can show it it nobody fault just a fact of life. Although as i have mentioned williow seems to be getting better and better.

I'd love to know who does the grading for Gra Nicolls then - some of the 4-5 star bats I've seen have been shocking for �150-200 bats

Better does not mean the quantity has risen.

Prices i do'nt think has risen through the roof i take our crown we have better crown maybe not as many we supply the demand but once it has gone it has gone.

I guess it all depends as quite a few on the forum may be limited to the clefts they get there hands on due to the numbers they get so struggle to get top top class williow in low density.

As for prices i will keep saying we offer something for everybody our prices are very good for what we offer which is unique in the world of cricket.

Our prices in the lower to mid range have not changed.

I bet grading for mass market is relative. I.e the top 10% of willow is 5 star...
So if the willow you have is all poor, then the top 10% is just the best of a bad bunch. It's fair-ish because it's relative but doesn't work when you stack it up against other people grading for a a niche market where branding plays less of a part in the consumers choice relative to touch and feel quality.

I know I might be flogging a dead horse here but what is the main reason why bat costs have risen over the years, I presume its due to inflation as the processes in making a bat won't have changed in the last ten years?

Our process is unique and was not around 10 years ago . As for the others i'm not so sure.

In the old days i would have told you but i keep my nose out of other people intrests.

The process of driving your car hasn't really changed in 10 years but the cost of doing so has.

I wonder what the real cost of a bat 10 years ago was in today's money?

Did anyone buy a top class bat 10 years ago and Reiner what it cost them?

I just went online and did an inflation calculation. 200quid in the year 2000 is the equivalent of 300 in today's money.
That amazed me.
