Have you ever been in SportsDirect?
The staff go out of their way to avoid talking to you, so they'd probably turn a blind eye!

Very good point. I just assumed they were all mute?  ???

To be fair though, the pimpley faced teenager in the polyester tracksuit that works there may not understand the nuances of cricket bat testing and use their rapealarm to alert a real adult if they see you weilding a mallet. You'll terrify them that you're there to smash up the enormous mugs or even worse damage the Dunlop Golf Clubs or the Donnay Tennis Rackets!

Just open up the plastic packing on their soft-as-anything cricket balls and bounce a few off the bat. They won't care.

Saw these today, between 12-16 grains all pretty straight and just a bit of colour on one side.

The v1200 middle is too low for me. The v800, despite the duckbill didn't pick up very well. I suspect one was too heavy and the other just didn't feel right. The round handles didn't help either. I looked at the v600 excel? As well and it has a much flatter bleached face. I suspect its from a different supplier.

I picked up a nice one in Oxford city centre today. I thought the pick up was good. Would have said it was 2.9ish - or it felt like a bat I could use happily. Good looking wood too, not dissimilar to those above.

They had two in Leeds sports direct not as nice looking as them picked up well mind both 2-9 and a real bargain I did cheekily bounce a ball on them tapped up ok 2 sprung handles as well and nice 40mm drop duck.

Lovely bats for the price

I would avoid those boots if you intend to bowl pace in them. Although very light and very comfortable I managed 30 overs in them before by toes ended up poking through the 'D30' protection. Perfect however when I was batting and rooted at first slip.

Where are you lot finding these?
My local sports direct has 3 of the painted Slazenger bats bunged in a corner next to the Dunlop golf racquets!
No chance of finding anything half decent

That was in a tiny SD in SW London, they only had two SH bats in the store. One of them happened to be this one

Unfortunately every SD store seems to differ on the size of their cricket sections and some seem to get better or worse (Leeds used to be pretty decent but is very hit and miss now).  Was in London at the weekend and went to Lilywhites which is now Sports Direct I believe and they had the biggest and best cricket section I've seen in one of their stores up on the 5th Floor.  There were some pretty decent sticks if you rummaged far enough.

Also try online, I picked up a lovely GN Matrix from their website for £75 (Topic is in the Gray Nics thread).

Popped into the Norwich store this morning and found some decent stuff! Impressed by the Spartan sticks, performance was good and quality of the stickers impressed me. Slazenger sticks were Indian made but were big profiles.
