MCC vs Yorkshire

What do we all think then?

Cook's poor run seems to go on.
Has Lyth batted himself into the openers slot for the West Indies series?
Can we get Arnie out of retirement?

I see Cook has continued his impressive form with the bat. At what point then does he become a selection worry for the test side??? or does he get years again like he did in the ODI? shame for Compton not getting some runs to show Cook up :(

It was less the poor form more the ease that a medium pace left arm bowler trapped Cook on the crease early on.

There are one or two rather than faster left arm bowlers traveling over this summer who like to bowl a full length... Cook is going to really struggle.

As for his place - I think he has the whole summer and after we lose the Ashes he will have to step down as captain

not sure we are going to lose the Ashes Buzz?
im still optimistic(deluded?) we can hold it together on the field as the whole Eastenders cast(the whole admisinstation etc) collapses in a heap
 :)

Lyth 92 no-this gut MUST get a chance to open with Cook otherwise scrap the 18 counties and let's all watch the football

I played golf against the County Cricketers golf society yesterday - there were a few guys "Inside cricket" playing against us and it is reasonable to say I took a totally different view to them on a number of issues... My pessimism is well founded.

I think the Ashes will be close this time-not much between the sides I can see
Yorkshire have another guy,a bit younger, Alex Lees-he looks like the business too.

One of the reason I would not of taken Trott is because there is no space.Straussy said on the telly England will play him once they deceided to take him-if that's right then either the whole batting order gets re-jigged or Lyth goes as the reserve-which would be massively unfair.

I don't suppose the new Chairman of the ECB might chip in with some selection advise

cookie out cheap again.

not sure when a bad run becomes a slump. I like Cook but he's having a shocker, and fail in the west indies and the knives will really be out

if it was a club game we would say hit your way out of it right?

Difficult isn't it - there is a lot about Cook the test player to like - the concentration, the ability against the short ball etc - but the fact is that bowlers have completely worked him out by now - they can more or less bowl half volleys at him with impugnity and anything that shapes back to the pads is becoming a secondary flaw.

Problem is, if dropped, thats more or less him finished.  That being the case, the selectors will want to give him absolutely every conceiveable chance.

He is only 30 - if he is dropped I don't see him being finished at all.

I don't see him getting dropped however.

yeah im not so sure either Buzz. If he's dropped he's effective lost one day and test captaincy and his place. I think it would be very hard to come back.

he was never going to keep up the superman stuff from a couple of years ago, but it's totally barren at the moment-he's not getting to 20 or 30....

and there are other waiting. Lyth, trott etc.....

I hope he comes out of it soon, his record is still incredible for someone just 30...
