Where do your overseas stay?
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:14:28 PM »

Looks like my club aren't having an overseas this year as we are really struggling to accommodate them within the club. Just wondering if any other clubs out there have the same issues? Do they normally just stay with other club members/players or do any clubs have more innovative solutions! ?

We had an overseas one year who would sleep in the hall outside a teammates flat a lot. That was more because he was too drunk to get through the door than by design though...  :-[

Buy a caravan or get the caravan sight to sponsor one a cheap old on out it on your ground let him shower in the club.

He can also double up as barman club security too

And when it was absolutely sheeting it down mid week there was no way int he world he didn't sleep in the pavilion

I guess its all part of the experience.... i wonder if overseas coming here are treated and worse better than lads from the UK going out to Aus or NZ?

At my old club the president was quite a wealthy fellow and had an annex which was basically a three bed house in which he would let the Oversea's stay in with full use of the grounds inc pool, tennis courts and a 3 hole golf course.

We try to put them up with a player, we've been quite lucky that most overseas have stayed with a club member and his family. We used to have a club benefactor before his wife divorced him and took his cash, he brought the Dentist over in his pomp, who ran amok. Great guy, but our benefactor wasn't quite sure how many additional (Female) lodgers he would have staying over night! Also had another West Indian a couple of years ago, who had been offered accommodation with one of our players who played semi pro rugby. It was a house shared by 4-5 rugby lads, who had unfortunately for us had a party the night before our overseas player arrived. I picked our overseas up from the airport and took him straight to the house, there were beer cans littering the front of the house which wasn't a great first impression, but on opening the front door we found the stair rail had been completely smashed in to non existant, 2 inside door were hanging off, the place was a wreck and the rugby lads had passed out in the front room totally naked. We apologised to our overseas and spent the next couple of hours desperately trying to find accommodation for him.

Ah good old Uncle Maynard. We never got the bill from a very nice lady in the village who put him up 'in her spare room' for a few nights when he played for us, make of that what you will....

Favourite quote from him was 'where can i get a Peterborough shaaaaaaag?'

Back to the OP. Generally overseas stay with players or the club makes use of a well established relationship with a local homeowner/non playing club member. There is one club near us who converted part of their large pavilion to house 1, sometimes 2 overseas lads. Beds, little living room with TV, kitchen and toilet, they use the club showers and make good use of the bar no doubt
