I was in your position couple of years. I was part of a dominant team who finished runner up in the T20 league. I got dropped multiple times just for no reason (5 out of 10 games). Sometimes the reason would be to offer a chance for another player. After a while i realized the captain is favoring his friends & family. Quit the team and joined a weaker team. Now i get to bat up the order (No 5) and bowl quota of 4 overs (medium pace) in every T20 game. Some people mentioned that i am selfish, however my age is catching up with me and i am not sure how long i can keep playing. So when there is time, i want to make good use of it ... It so turns out, i was able to push my current team to finish third after 4 trying seasons.

Moral of the story - move on and find a new club. Have fun and play as much as you can.  :D

I find myself in Cam's position (although without having to do the teas) and not for the first time either. 7th week in a row i've been out of the side, no reason given. Both XIs haven't had a win in as many weeks and the 2nds only got 47 in their innings on sunday (a lot of ducks and only 1 double figure score). Groundman spent the entire training session tonight giving me abuse then flopped like a freshly caught fish the second he had to go put his money where his mouth is (he hit 3 out of 90 bowling machine balls), yet he's playing this weekend. If they phone me up this weekend expecting me to go make up the numbers then they're getting told where to go, they either pick me at the selection meeting or not at all (even 12th man would be acceptable). Seriously considering a move next season.

Guys, if you aren't getting the cricket you want then move! The lvl is irrelevant! Better to play lower league but get a game than high league and watch the same 2-3 play do everything each week.. Teams just take the mick and abuse people.

Quit and Join lesser clubs where you can make a difference and play in a relaxed manner

I had the same issues last year as you guys this season,
I played 4ths and 3rd and then just Sunday's and it did my head in,
In the team one week and out the next so I moved this season,
And it's the best thing I did, top score of 39 better teams better level, and a lot more professional with better training.
If your not happy I think you can move in the season and I would do so for sure

Couldn't agree more also when clubs treat players like cin88 as discribed and the player stills stays with the club nothing will ever change for the player whilst he is at the club. When I was starting my cricket career an ex county professional said to me always look after yourself 1st never forgotten it.

Move and come play for us cam!

As mentioned elsewhere we have the opposite problem. 9 first trainers and nobody wanting to step up to fill the other two spots(despite promises they won't be just fillers)

At our club, if your willing to play first team cricket your in for life and we will just develop you to the level. I can honestly say, due to holidays injuries work, not once in the last 7 years has anyone who wants to play 1st xi been dropped!

I will most likely be moving clubs next season. I have had the fall from grace of playing 1XI Cricket last year to playing 2XI cricket.

I was skipper last year for the 1's and chose to not do it this year due to work commitments. New skipper and I don't really get on so I am now scoring runs for fun and taking wickets. However I still feel that I should be in the 1's.

I have just moved to Wokingham also which means I have a bit of a drive to get to games and play cricket when it is away days. So I will be looking local around here. However I want to find a club that is a decent set up and have a good group of lads.

Lost by 1 run tonight 1 run!

Chasing 80 in 12 8 ball overs.

8 need from last over.
Dot
1 to put me on strike
2 through cover
2 through cover
Then a pee roller bye bye stumps, cheers shocking artificial
Next guy bowled trying to flick it to fine leg.
1 run to cover.

2runs needed to win 1 for a tie........ And another pee roller onto the stumps.

Lost by 1, artificial played awful, no bounce one end, erratic the other. Grrrrr

If you aren't playing enough then why play at all? I sat out most of my teens and 20s batting 8/9 as the last recognised batter and 5th choice bowler, getting 5/6 overs here and there. The one season I batted in the top 6, I scored 1000 runs in all cricket. Then went back down the order while the "big names" got the easy runs. Lucky for me I moved away and helped my next club win the 2nd XI league, batting and bowling plenty. Changed my perspective on just being a good "club man". If you aren't getting opportunities then don't waste the best cricketing years being a makeweight.

Bowled like a drain in our first game (borderline yips!), and only made 8 in my first attempt at converting myself to an opener, we only made 136 and they got them for 5 down.

Second game I made 73 opening, which is my highest score since moving here and switching to astro wickets, however we shelled a heap of catches and failed to defend 186. :(

Have since made 24, 35 and 77 leaving me with the average of a proper batsman so far, still bowling like a drain though.

Well our game was called off due to the wicket being unfit / damp at 12.20 - as I live 10-12 miles from the ground and there's been no rain I read it as we've had drop outs and can't field a team. One of out lads was already on his way so took photos of the track to raise a complaint to the league (we won't hold out breath).

@RF we should have been at Gainsborough
