Was taught as lesson in cricket yesterday, Cardiff CC lost the toss and were put into bat where they went on to score 360-3 with their left handed opener scoring an unbeaten 169 and they proceeded to bowl us out for a poor 56 meaning a 304 run loss. Wasn't a fun day to say the least.

that left handed opener (Dewi Preece) is a really good player - he's hit league tons in the first team. not entirely sure why he's now playing 2s if I'm honest, he's far too good for our level. looks like their spinners caused you all sorts of problems - the lad who took 5fer is a left arm spinner I think? chucks it :D

we got beat by bridgend - lost the toss and got stuck in to bat in the rain. their 15 year old quick bowler took a 5fer and bowled brilliantly to restrict us to 193ao. they got it 6 down, but we dropped their match winning number 3 (70*) five times!

What a sublime player he is Rich, that left arm spinner ripped us a part but if we had proper umpires he'd be going to be tested for that action. They brought their own umpire with them and gave a few lbw's off the left armers bowling, and he said that Preece dropped out of the 1st XI because he was batting 5 and doesn't like the pressure of it. Surely he'll be back up there next week after that.

I'm currently averaging 12 after batting 8 times and a high score of 28! To say I'm disappointed is an understatement as felt good pre-season, hit a couple of 50's and retired but can't buy a run in the league. We've been stuck in on a few wet decks that hasn't helped but it's a bit soul destroying when you're scratching around for form but see team mates swinging from the hip and missing, or getting leading edges that drop between fielders and still going on and getting a score while I seem to get punished for the first bad shot every time. Our skipper was dropped 4 times last week in the same game!

Any advice?

Preece is a very good player, his dad is on the committee at Cardiff I think, and used to be league secretary or something along those lines.

more and more teams are bringing their own umpire now, which is interesting. yesterday we had one home and one away umpire for the whole game and it was actually quite good. their leggie bowled three beamers in two overs though - I would have taken him off. unfortunately there's not a lot you can do about suspect actions at 2nd team level. one of our opening bowlers has a weird action which looks like a chuck from front on but from the side you can see it doesn't straighten during the delivery. I'm certainly not going to call anyone for chucking at our level.

the little Asian leggie caused me all sorts of problems - we played there on a wet day and he still got the ball to talk. didn't get me out but I barely scored off him, then he bowled one of my mates with a beaut of a googly. Cardiff definitely setting the standard this year!

First decent amount of time at the wicket on Saturday and first 50+ score for my new club.  Previously asked to move down the order slightly as I took up the role of make-shift keeper but ended up being pushed further down the order due to the match situation for the last 3-4 weeks and therefore getting little to no time to bat.  After always opening this was becoming ever so slightly frustrating although it was good to see others batting so well.  Hopefully with this and some more decent knocks I can push to get back up in the top order now.

Was really happy with my knock after coming in at 17-3 and then putting on 80+ partnership on a tricky wicket where plenty of people were getting hit on the ribs (myself included), hands etc off sharp rising deliveries.  Rode my luck early on but by the end some kind of touch felt like it was coming back.  Ended up nicking off to another sharpish bouncer as I didn't drop my hands in time so not too disappointed to get out in that way after the way others had got themselves out.

We ended up losing in the end as we could only post 165 as the tail all fell cheaply and the deck flattened out considerably after tea but hopefully the runs will continue to flow now!  :)

The little Asian guy had me caught at slip, your opening bowler Jack Farrant? He does have a strange action and bowled an 11 ball over against us, poor lad had a mare.

Have you taken a step in in standard or are you just struggling to get anything going?

both really mate.

massive step up in standard but i am also struggling to get going as well.

most weeks iv'e been batting 8-9 but then on the od occasion i have been asked to open the batting lol.

i have had 3 golden ducks this year don't think ive ever had 3 in a season before.

some of the balls im getting out to tho are not good enough to be getting me out this is what is frustrating me.
I'm usually really confident when i am batting and i'm not feeling it at the moment so i think this is effecting my game.

had an ok knock in last man stands last night and got t20 2night so hopefully i can pull some form back. But LMS and t20 games are usually poor standard.

i dont think that helps facing 80mph on a sat rarely getting bad balls then on a Monday and Tuesday batting against farmer giles and his 50mph lolly pops

Don't knock the lollypops - they're what made English Club cricket great!!!!

I don't think I even register on the speed-gun.

You need a transfer to the CHL in warwickshire and play for Ashorne, I'm sure we can get your average up.

I want to see my rev count thingy like they have on sky.
I must be pushing about 3-4 RPM with my non-turning offies!

I'd be your captain @Simmy - surely that should be enough in itself. I'd even shower with you after the game
