Last game in England for the season today, decent weather in October so hopefully more teams keep playing later year on year .

Now for some MCC tour stuff over the winter

Jesus who you still playing for and indeed against in 2nd week of oct?

I agree weather has been excellent last 3 weekends, not the warmest but dry, maybe teams should play later in the year but has problems with winter ground work also

Yes, for the last 2-3 years the weather for the first 2 weekends in Oct has been decent. Ok, it's not the warmest and you are more likely to get rained off etc but as you say.. you can also just as easily get good weather.. Why waste sept and upto 4 games in Oct. Pre germinate your seeds etc, then you don't have to worry about growing the grass when you put the wicket to bed.

Good for bar takings and match fees too :)  We played for 6 months exactly this year apparently.. next year we plan to play every weekend in April, may, june, july, aug, sept and first two weekends in oct.. so most of the year!   Only teams not interested are footy/rugby ones tbh and there are less and less of htem around anyway.

Been persuaded to playing an indoor game tomorrow night?
That will be the first cricket of any kind I've played since August  :-[

What have I signed up for? I hate indoor matches!

I hate indoor too but I'm surprised it's not popular tbh. It's dying on its (No Swearing Please) in glos, I've been a few times and you see he same players playing for multiple teams and teams struggling for numbers. Given so few teams play anyway, it's sad to see. I'd have thought it was a good way to get youth and teens playing regularly

Always enjoy playing into Oct as it seems to make the next season come round quicker.

nightmare for groundsman. Don't blame him when grass thin next year when you want to start asap. If turns wet impossible to get loam down.

Playing for our main opponents from Saturday league in this seasons indoor league, as despite 120 players registered for summer between us, we can't get six each out on a Sunday.

And despite two wins out of two and top of league, tomorrow game we still only have 4 players available!!! 4!!!!!!! Takes Michael a little bit.

But yeah anyone from Sheffield want a game tomoz give us a shout! Lol

As I say, I'm no fan and don't think it in any way relates to real cricket but.. But I'd assume it would appeal to modern lifestyles and the quick/fast paced game to youngsters.

We had a team in a league last year. It wasn't taken really seriously apart from with the younger teams. I tried to get a team together for this year but there wasn't much interest. I was mainly trying to get it going again to keep the lads together until the winter nets start

It's hard. Some want it to be serious, some want it to just be fun. I'd play every week if it was fun but a few teams take it as seriously as Saturday's and it just sucks the fun from it. Maybe that's the key, identify what your players want from it and play it that way.

I've been tempted to help them promote the league but CBA tbh

I play indoor and it's not my first choice but can help keep your eye in batting wise over the winter

Round our way it's taken pretty seriously by most though

There were 5-6 teams in our league and 5 took it as a bit of fun. There were teams who were bringing novices so we were only bowling off 2 or 3 yards every week. There was one team of young lads though who were running in off the back wall of the hall and taking it a bit too seriously, they were even stealing runs when the bowler was getting the ball back!!

To me that wasn't really what it was about, I'm with you on this. It's a good social game to keep the group together over the winter

This is the 3rd season I have entered a team in the evening indoor league at Tadcaster. I did it originally to give my autistic pal match experience as above all, that's what he really needs. Anyhow he's really on the ball this autumn and I feel we have good chance of winning our division. Also had someone's Dad come up to me while playing a Sunday friendly towards the end of the outdoor season (after hearing my pal saying he played indoors) who asked if his son could join our team and he's turned out to be a terrific asset behind the stumps.
