I move about all over the place depending on a number of factors. One being left armers. I've never faced much of them before so I struggle slightly with the ball coming across me. I find moving out of my crease helps me get in line with the ball. If it's swinging I'll also move forward to negate the swing, but only if the bowler is doing it at pace. If he's slow I'll stay back as I usually feel I have enough time to see it. My normal stance will see me with my back foot just behind the line with a back and across trigger. If there is some serious pace that will swap to my front foot behind nearest the line to give me more time to see it.

As contradictory as it sounds with the paragraph above, I don't actually think about it too much. It's more of a subconscious move that makes me feel the most comfortable.

i had a right bouncy track on Sunday, with a quick opener, it was heaven. i could leave on length!

as well as moving in and out of the crease, i also move across my stumps at times. early on in the innings i leave a lot outside off to force a bowler to bowl too straight, then i can play through the on side. later when i'm set i might step across to off which allows me to hit straight.

knowing your own game is key - i know that i play well off my legs and straight, but the cover drive gets me out most often. i'm strong on the cut but less strong on the pull, and if you bowl me a full toss it's most likely to be hit over midwicket. with this in mind i try and give myself the most opportunities to score in my strong areas (and leave the cover drive in the bag!)
