SF Bat Repairs & Opinions
« on: May 27, 2015, 04:52:56 PM »

Hey Guys.

Some of you may remember me, I bought an SF Black Edition one of from OS last year and its been fantastic.
I haven't used it in a game and was using it on the bowling machine for the first time today on low enough speeds and the splice has splice all together. I have managed to push the splice back together with the bat and don't really want to remove it again, incase I damage it further potentially.

I will attach pictures for you guys to see and give me some advice.
I have emailed OS also so waiting to hear back from him but wouldn't mind a few opinions from you guys with getting it repaired.

First a couple questions:

What do you guys think possibly caused it? Something i've done wrong on my behalf? Sometimes things just happen. I'm not too upset as it looks to just be a new splice needed.
Is the SF handles a specialist handle? (it maybe a silly question, if so please be nice! :D) Will I need to get one from an SF themselves or from an SF supplier?
Are there any SF Repair specialists? For the amount the bat cost me, I want to get it done by the best of the best.

Any recommendations would be appreciated too.

Thanks
Mathew

Looks like you'd be able to get the same handle glued back in providing that its a good fit.

Glue and clamp, as easy as that.

The handle should pull out, all you need to do is apply a good wood glue like say some gorilla glue and push back in place and clamp tight.

Warranty? Surely that's manufacturing fault to come out intact like that. Buy it locally?

Probably not if it's OS. Good luck getting OS to refund or repair it. Others have tried and failed on this forum. As Ryan says, it should be an easy fix to re-glue or replace the handle, but you will foot the bill i suspect.

btw - was there a nail in the handle by any chance?

Ok. I guess that's the risk we take. I like the look of the Sf bats, but this on one of their flagship models and the infamous nail makes me wary.

Its easily fixable as mentioned but their qa is faulty.

why are people suggesting to glue it back in... i thought the convention on these bats was to secure the handle with a nail!

I presume this is what the nail is there to prevent.

Feedback from the nail incident has lead to a review at SF and from here on it's strictly tech screws being employed when they run low on clag*.

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to get some feedback with regards to this.

I emailed OS but like you said, I doubt i'll get anything back from him. All I wanted was possibly a good contact for SF repairs in the UK.

As for the nail, I haven't seen a nail no. I will look again tonight incase.

Im based Liverpool/North West, does anyone know or recommend anyone for repairs nearby for this kind of repair?

Putting the same Handel will not help, it shall be a loose fit, this problem shall still remain.
Putting a nail may hamper the spring action of the Handel, this shall lower the performance
Of the bat.
You need to have it re handled, to get best results out of this bat.

It all depends on how the handle was fitted originally. If it am wasn't a good fit to start with then yes it will be replacing. It it's the glue that's failed then it's as simple as re fitting the same handle.
