Rashid is a confidence player - if he feels wanted then he will do just fine, but if he is messed around he tends to go pretty awry.  Should he play?  Yes, I think so - he's the bettr spinner and no worse a bat to my mind.  Will he?  No - his face does not really fit.

Rashid is an attacking option not a bowl dry option. He turned the ball both ways and yes threw in some full tosses and half trackers. You are not going to beat the Aussies by playing safe with a Giles like stopper to rest the quicks. Are quicks aren't good enough. unlike 2005. So retain all the attacking options and just go for it, What we got to loose.

Do not think he will although he should be. Gives us a variation of wrist spin that we have not had for a while and Joe Root is more than capable to bowl a few overs of Off break if required.

I think Rashid adds a far better balance to the side. Turns it both ways and is a genuine number 8 bat.

The line up I'd like to see (but probably won't) is:

Cook
Lyth
Bell (or Root)
Root (or Bell)
Stokes
Moeen
Buttler
Rashid
Wood
Broad
Anderson

Even more bowling options, and still tons of batting depth

That was my thinking, although I'd be tempted to go with Ballance rather than Bell in the long term. The issue is fitting Stokes and Moeen into the same side - they both slot in naturally at 6 and, seeing as both are primarily batsmen who bowl, putting one of them in at 8 is too low.

Nothing I have seen about Rashid so far makes me think he wont be anything other than cannon fodder at test level.

This is what I was thinking, give him time to improve through the ODI's first. Throwing him in at the deep end against the current Australian side won't end well...

I can't see Rashid playing test cricket anytime soon.

I am not quite sure who is the next international spinner really.

danny briggs to put a name out there.

It should really be Panesar but a bit sad to see how his career has gone so fast downhill. He is currently playing for Luton Indians with no hope of a game at Essex

there's various reasons i'm sure all of them play a part in ending up where he is, but it's sad and a waste as he has the talent, or def did have...
