Interesting article on the beeb today:

However, what I can't understand is why does he continue to dish him up tasty half volleys?

Interesting article, but I don't think the demonstrations are that good.

I play at a fairly low level and have faced a bowling machine set to 85mph and after 4 or 5 balls I got used to it and was fine. The thing is, I knew I could get forward and I was relatively safe.

I assume that machine can mix it up between short and full without warning but maybe the lad batting isn't at the level to play 90mph short bowling at the moment, but then again that is test level isn't it?

Would have been more interesting to see him dealing with picking up the length.

From the video it looks as if the laptop controlled the length of the ball.

However, most the clips of the lad batting showed the ball pitch on a dishy half volley.

The only way this would be useful is a random ball feed, not necessarily at 90mph but then lad would get a true idea of batting.

The video on the link may just be for media purposes and not wanting to embarrass the lad but who knows.

Quite enjoyed the read, interesting even for a proper cricket fan rather than just the common denominator it's probably aimed at.

Given the lad was clearly getting his first taste of the machine and rapid bowling, would have been harsh to ding some in at his head at 90!
