Advice please
« on: August 21, 2015, 05:25:43 PM »

Hi guys, I'm really taking time into researching bats as I've had a couple of duds recently and really want to find that one bat that will serve me well for the next couple of years.
I was considering getting an Aldred Silver sovereign with a butterfly stain and also one in players grade. Anyone have an opinion on these bats and also should I get one in Spectre or just get two sovereign's?
Also any other recommendations would be appreciated if you like any other brand.

Where are you based mate?

I'd say pick up the phone and give Paul (Aldred) a call, book a appointment, head to the workshop and talk it over. He'll have other customers bat in progress of all the shapes for you to wave around.

If your wanting a butterfly to save your matchbat (so nets and stuff) get the same shape / weight. If your like the rest of us get different profiles and probably move it on after 6 games  ;)

In all serious Paul made me a gold sovereign and I went down to have it shaped, good couple of hours and really worth it.

Based in Wigan but it would be worth the trip down to get the full experience. They look like guns but don't know if they actually perform.

As above, if you're getting one for nets/rain/etc I'd get a matching pair. I have a Gold Sovereign also, been really impressed by it. Definitely performs, I can tell you that!

Not that bad then mate as he's about 15 minutes off J28 of the M1. The one I had was a really nice bat and I recommend Paul to a team mate who has a spectre. At the end of the day you can pick what you want from his selection of handled clefts (so you can decide how they tap up plus aesthetics etc).

I was thinking of getting a Spectre players for my senior games where it bounces more and a butterfly silver for juniors, think I might just get a matching pair, think that's the best move.

Lukeys in Preston isn't too far away from you. I'm working in Leigh at the moment and called in a couple of weeks ago on the way home. Couldn't really resist getting one of his own brand bats  ;)

It's got 15 straight grains and the pick up and performance is really good, cost £225. He had some lovely kudos' in too.

I'll see if I've got any photos on my phone

Definitely go for a matching pair then, there's been plenty of evidence now that where you hit the ball is dependent on you as a batsman rather than the pitches - you adjust your shots to still hit the ball in the same places (which isn't a massive surprise when you think about it!) Middle coverage higher up the bat is good on the sovereign shapes anyway so you won't need to worry about timing it higher up on a silver.

Puma,Ca,Sf,Larson,,,they all are good ones but you have to maintain your bat by oiling so it has enough moisture so it doesn't break and performs well
