Why is there such thing as test status? Because very few teams could bat for long enough to make a game last. Bear in mind test status used to mean unlimited time. Now it would seem that you can add all the current test teams to that list that can't bat to make a game survive five days...

This is true, but it's one of the many things that make cricket seem utterly mental to outsiders. Don't see that an Ireland - Holland series (say) rarely making it past the 4th day would actually be a big issue, and other nations playing it would hopefully improve the long form skills of their batsmen, not to mention bringing more new conditions and challenges into the game (presumably Dutch test tracks would be very flat and occasionally flood and Irish ones would seam more than a Savile Row tailor)
