Test it for yourself, do a mallet test without one, then work yourself way up until you've got 3 taped together.

Its basic physics really, more layers of protection = more shock absortion/dispersion (and as a result, less pain!)

ah ok..i thought they were trying to expand coverage. I find the aero one to be really good, but it really only fits well into the aero shorts.
