im assuming hales wont get the chances ali is... why don't they just announce who is obviously the preferred choice to partner cook?

with butler coming back out as well its pretty nailed on as ali opening and jos keeping then

shame as I think hales deserves a run to see what he can do as ali will be horribly found out in SA if he opens

Can't remember the last time a team had batsmen bat twice in a innings even if it's a warm up. Even cricinfo don't know how to score it

Buttler playing reverse sweeps.

My opinion is that his odi game is far superior to test, and if he's gonna succeed at test a more attacking styler from him will be needed. He's not a dig in player.

Agreed.  There is no point in reigning him for test matches.  My only fear is that the 'that'snottestcricket' brigade will crucify him for it.
