Sports Direct Bargain Bat Bin Lottery
« on: October 31, 2015, 11:29:16 AM »

As some of your might of read, I had a brain fart and brought 8 bats from Sports Direct in the sale. Well the first 2 have arrived. Here's bat 1:-

GM Icon F7 404
32mm Edge
65mm Spine?
8 straight grains
Blemish at the top and bat naturally bleached to an inch of it's life
Weight 2'8
On ebay - Yep

It's not at big bat but remember it's an F7 blade at 2'8. Taps up well and it has a fairly deep sound off the mallet, so not too hard pressed. Picks up well and any self respecting club cricketer would be pretty happy with it. GM's quality control on the lower end bats is outstanding and this looks every bit as good as a high end GM. Nice pickup.

Bat 2 is a GM Six6:-
39mm Edge
60mm Spine?
9 straight grains
Looks like a knot at the bottom bat naturally bleached to an inch of it's life
Weight 2'11 (just under)
On ebay - Nope, pondering keeping this one

Heavier with an F4.5 face, this bat feels like a big piece of wood. Look past the blemish and you have 9 pretty straight grains. Responds and sounds good again. Though I suspect the Icon responds slightly better, this has the coverage. On my keep list at present.

Both bats look alright for 404's, is that a butterfly stain on the Icon?

I'm waiting for the delivery driver to drop my Icon and Six6 off.

I think that might be - daughter was just having a bash with the mallet and it certainly wasn't dead in that area.

That doesn't look bad at all - the grains are pretty straight, it's the butterfly mark that puts the waves in there.

Looks nice. I'm waiting for my Kook bubble to arrive. Hopefully it won't be a plank, but for £11.99 it was worth the risk.
