I saw that earlier. I can only think that adidas cricket except for the shoes are in decline. The only high profile player they have now that people can associate with is pietersen and with him playing only t20 competitions consistently I don't see them surviving much longer and therefore are withdrawing the bat range

Not really; may be retired but they still have Tendulkar, plus Raina, Rohit Sharma, Broad, Bravo etc.

Pretty much all the younger Surrey players had Adidas last year, decked in it...

The change of sponsor doesn't surprise me as money does talk, but the fact it's Slazenger does! They seemed to be getting rid of their sponsored players recently, so is a resurgence on the cards? With their heritage it would be a shame to see Slazenger go, but they have gone off the boil in recently years  (not helped by the sports direct association).

As for Adidas I think they have Willey on their books still (along with Broad and Southee) so will still have a presence on the international stage, without a real big name player giving them regular air time.

There do seem to be trends at counties. Loads of Surrey players were adidas last year. The bat of choice at Lancs was mainly GMs and I seem to remember a fair few of the Yorkies a couple of years ago were Slazenger

Do players wait till a contract has finished or can they change whenever they like?

I think it just depends on the player themselves. If you look at the potential de villiers deal with MRF he is waiting out the rest of the contract but I'm sure it's common practice to just follow the money straight away

For as long as I've watched cricket, Surrey has been Slazenger-friendly.

If I remember correctly when he arrived in aus for last years if bash he was pictured in training with blank bats and slazenger gear.

But rocked out to first game with adidas.

May have just been a short term free kit deal while he wasn't that big.

Now he is slazenger have come back knocking.

Of the two pictured above, I tip Jason Roy to have a successful international career.
As for Alex Hales - he undoubtedly has talent, but he still wears his pads the wrong way round!
