Inquiry
« on: December 22, 2009, 09:55:08 AM »

Hi guys,

I'm new on the board since last Sunday. Only started playing cricket in 2009 but completely hooked on it.
For the moment using a kookaburra Ice but it starts to show some nasty cracks so a new cricket bat might be a useful investment for 2010. My budget is around £ 160 depending on my current bat the budget can go up.

Posible bats that make a chance of being purchased are Kookaburra Kahuna ( big/gest Kahuna) and GM Flare, Icon , Hero from the 808 range.

A custom made bat is also an option for me.
So I just need to know some rates, duration of the production process etc...

I would also like to add a little question. As I'm still a rookie in the field of cricket, is it worth buying a custom bat in this early stage of my game. The only player I know that plays with a custom bat is Jacob Oram ( Yes I do support Kiwi cricket  ;D) .

Thanks and already a merry X-mas and an awesome 2010

Are you saying that you KNOW jacob Oram? Or that you KNOW he uses a custom made?

Think he means only person he knows of that goes custom is jacob oram,

amoboko, i think most players will be using custom made bats, am i not wrong guys?, we just dont know what bats. I suppose it depends how we define custom made, because not many internationals are going to be picking bats off the shop shelf!! So I would say nearly all are. If i were you i would too, you cant go wrong with them. They are well priced with great customer service and are exactly what you want.

yeah off the shelf bats amongst pros are the exception not the rule, which is unfortuanate because when we buy the same bat as our favourite player its probably nothing like it! I think Mark Boucher is one of the few pros who use off the shelf bats. From what i hear, Newbery make a lot of pro bats and obviously sponsorship dictates what stickers you use

I think a lot of the GM boys use very similar profiles to their endorsed range. Might be wrong though so feel free to correct me.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I don't know Jacob Oram personally just that he uses his own made bats. By adding this piece of info I just wanted to make clear that the chapter of custom made bats is completely new to me and as I'm just a beginner I still have many questions about this specific field of cricket.

In my first thread I did on Sunday some of the guys told me that a budget of £ 160 would do the trick to fix me a custom made bat. Maybe some useful info. I'm almost 7 feet tall and need a FH. Like to play coverdrive shots and the bat needs to be light :-)

I'm not searching for sub continental bats as shipping to Europe is pretty expensive. UK bats are the ones I need as I just can go there and pick them up :-)

Thanks.

Ok, I did some research on the board and found 4 batmakers that have awesome looking designs and that are affordable within my budget ( except Black cat but their bats look soooo phat)

Vantage, SAF, Blackcat and Fusion. I will contact those guys later today and see what we can figure out.

Vantage, SAF and BlackCat are all members on this forum I believe!
So you could really to them directly!
