Laver and Wood Reserve
« on: December 22, 2009, 06:15:29 PM »

Ordered my Reserve bat in the first week of November and it arrived in the first week of December, stuck in customs for four days and was custom made so expected the wait. Got sent 4 pics of willow that were to my specs and when I picked the cleft he got to making the huge profile with light pick up.

I wanted:
Reserve Bat
2lbs 10oz finished
13+ grains with heartwood
No stickers attatched but sent with it
Thicker handle than normal and bigger at the bottom for the bottom hand

Got the bat and all I could say was 'wow', it's so big, especially in the sweet spot and picks up lighter than my Icon. Had two nets with it and I must say it's been pressed to perfection and pings all the way up. Paid a lot of money for it and it's what I wanted so I'm happy.
Two bad points. First is it has a blemish on the back and a couple of dark dots on the inside edge but it doesn't affect the performance one bit. Second is the stickers didn't come with the bat, rang James 3 or 4 times regarding the bat so had to phone again to ask about the stickers. Simply he forgot to put them in! Sent them two weeks ago but yet to arrive so looking forward to them arriving. Now for the really annoying part.... Got charged £22.88 in customs charges! Very frustrating as my last Laver didn't get any but my order from GCCC did so I knew it was a 50/50 chance. Pics to follow:

Looks very nice, much like pros bats.

Isnt this the one thats pressed by mallet, if so does it feel noticeably different?

It sounds and feels like you hit it out the screws everytime. The preparation must be the cause, time and care taken must have brought the best out of the willow. The pick up has impressed most who have felt it, but being the only person who has hit it in anger I will say it is very good.

And Stubbzy it will be hard to get LBW's that hit the back thigh pad this year the way the umpires are feeling towards you boys... Thanks for stealing Crooky too, I can open the batting now!

I can see the dark knots on the edge. Granted it won't affect the performance but for £300 I would want a complete blemish free bat....
