Hes thinking New Zealand ?

Has anyone any experience or info on how he should proceed?

Just trying to see what options are out there for him.
He's 18 now, so might be a little old for academy?

I don't know how it works, with the playing for a team,working,coaching,accommodation etc

Different sport but when I was younger I spent time abroad playing rugby, I got in touch with clubs directly, sent lots of letters out with my playing cv, that did the trick nicely..

Good luck to him, encourage him to do it, as I found it probably one of the best experiences of my life..

New Zealand such a beautiful country with a long cricket season and plenty of good clubs offering a warm welcome  most with great facilities. The top teams play in the provincial leaques the lower teams are more focus on social cricket you train two to three times per week and play weekends you can play one or two   day matches plus 20/20.
Every winter I consider my sons offer to go over play some cricket and explore the country.

I went to Tuart Hill in Perth.. Very friendly club, they hold quite a few overseas winter players. Naming Matt Hunn as one of them. Very easy going and helps out with lodging work etc.

I played in Albany, Western Australia, great place to play cricket. Played cricket for a club called Railways, had 3 of us poms there at the same time! Had the best time, was a small town, with one nightclub.....

I would have loved to play abroad, part of crickets love for me is meeting new people and playing at new grounds.

Check out the Bay of Plenty (Where I live) mate and you will love it. Off to see Sri Lanka V NZ on the 5th at our little boutique ground. Great comp, great weather and great people. I know a couple of clubs offer coaching work and accommodation so will have a look.

Avoid Dunedin. Although a lovely place it is like playing in the outer Hebrides. It must be the coldest place for international cricket. Wellington is the windiest place on earth but the basin reserve is a special place. The best noodle house (the basin noodle house) is only a 100m from the ground and I highly recommend the spicy pork belly for Nz$12.
Bay of plenty has an excellent climate and warm sea too. I envy anyone who goes down there, I love nz and miss it every day.

It really depends on what level he wants to play as to what the setup might be. Does he want to play the highest standard possible or is he more after a cricket type holiday?
In my local club comp one of the captain/coaches is young guy from England who currently plays county 2nds. He gets accommodation and about $24K give or take depending upon performance.
If he wanted to he could play a higher level here, district/premier cricket but would not get the same remuneration. Depends what you want to get out of the summer abroad.
