40% off all Kooka and Spartan
« on: December 31, 2015, 11:48:47 PM »

just a heads up for the boys in Aus, Amart have 40% off all Kooka and Spartan cricket gear excluding balls.
Stubble upon it yesterday when in a store to purchase something non cricket. Ended up stocking up on things like grips/bat tape etc.
There were a few punters in grabbing some bats they seem happy with,  personally not a fan of the Kooka bats but if you are worth a look.
Amart mainly stock mid to low grade equipment in the case of bats and softs, but I found some good savings on clothing and accessories

Kookaburra are too dry and not pressed for enough. Don't even bother to roll the edges. Last 2 seasons and fall to bits. Knocked in 10+ Kookas this season alone and would buy a GN off the shelf rather than a kook. Gn are pressed good even out of the indian factory. Spartan, new balance, slazenger pressing are the same FS Sondhi, ok but i find Sareen and BAS superior.

Spartan bats are pressed/made by Sareen, not FC Sondhi.

That webpage is outdated buddy. Spartan used to source their bats from FC Sondhi but they moved to SS a while back. That page also shows Kookaburra UK and Australia as their clients but SG makes everything Kookaburra except for their top end balls. I saw their new ranges when I visited the factories in June.

Excellent. Liked the videos from last season. Wish i lived in Sydney I'd be in your store often. Plenty of peeps locally. Like the video on how you prepare bats.

I don't mind the mystery of who makes what and understand the commercial secrecy. I imagine the production in india is not centralised to the big manufacturers and possibly further subcontracted to smaller companies for different brands and grades.

I just wish Kookaburra would roll their edges. General consumers who buy their first bat from a chain just tap them in middle and take the bat out for catches only to find a massive crack. Must drive retailers nuts.

Agree with you on Kook bats. I had a 2012 model Kahuna 1000 which lasted almost 2.5 years. Made a recent purchase - Kahuna 900 - 2014 model and model cracked with exactly the same steps as you pointed out. I had no problems returning it though. My retailer took it back and gave me an equivalent replacement (in terms of price) - Spartan MC 1000.

Yeah I've heard similar stories. Kuhuna Player's Pro snapping down the grains. Replaced with Onyx Player Pro, which feathered almost immediately after a solid knock in amd the depth of the press was about 1 mm at the toe.

I feel sorry for Joe Average who thinks their $500 - $900 investment in grade 1 is worth it, because It will end in tears.

Seems like SG had a pretty bad year making bats in 2014. SG sunny Tonny purchased around the same time had a similar issue - handle snapped in the first practice session !
