Genius or the ramblings of a madman?
« on: January 05, 2016, 01:09:35 AM »

Whilst trying to get to sleep this nonsense popped into my head.
On occasion I've read of people purchasing a bat but on arrival the handle has been to thin for them which in extreme cases has led to them moving said purchase on, now I was thinking that if you could apply a kinesio type tape the length of the handle, around the circumference this would thicken the handle, but is it possible that it could also improve the performance?.

Definitely not, it's nowhere near strong enough I'm afraid! Was actually a reasonable length topic on this a couple of months ago, can't find it now though.

Are you thinking of my "Alternatives to twine" thread?

Also thought about Bat  handles at our local hospital the week before Christmas Mrs Senior fell down and broke her wrist the plaster room at the hospital told me they rarely use plaster  of Paris on breaks  these  days but this Manmade synthetic bandage type material  similar to what i have seen on GN bats which when has a slight amount of water applied sets rock hard i think this  stuff would be ideal for thickening up bat handles or an alternative to  traditional bindings

Not sure you'd want something that set rock hard, would either crack or give too much jarring.

Wouldn't the rubber inserts in the cane stop the jarring also thought you may get extra power  simalar to titanium handles.

Yes and no, the cork/rubber inserts work as additional shock absorbers In a flexible handle. That is why twine or medical tape is used, they provide re-enforcement to the handle while still allowing for a natural flex. If you had something set rock hard this flexibility would be gone, rendering the additional shock absorbers useless.

P.S I am no expert and just made all that up, so I could be totally wrong!

Nah that was pretty good Cam! Rubber inserts can't do anything if the whole handle is held solid.

Titanium handles?! Who/when?

No I hadn't read Daves article previously but very much what i was thinking had a read and its very much like the material the hospital used for Mrs Seniors cast except   The hospital material  looked slightly courser. As for GN titanium handles I had a pro performance bat with a  titanum rod in the middle of the handle at the the base the theory was  it made the handle stiffer and stopped the lost of power through the handle by sending ithe power back into the blade the blade made an awful sound on impact with the ball

Are you thinking of my "Alternatives to twine" thread?

http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=36350.0

I should've realised this subject had been broached, I doubt there are many topics cricket related that haven't been discussed on here but since the end of last season I have avoided the forum for the simple reason that the new season was to far away to be thinking cricket. Now the new year is here and winter nets approaching i can just about handle the suspense.
I will have a look at your thread later Cam.
Thanks.

My thread wasn't that involved really, just a list of things I thought could work that I put on screen before I forgot them haha
As for having the same thought as me, just remember the well known phrase: "fools never differ" "great minds think alike"
