Also remember the England coach trying to change Devons action but I believe Devon told the coach were to go and it wasn't Tesco.

he's scored runs, and heavy ones at that, long term I think, and it's my opinion respecting yours of course, that he will not be the great player everyone thinks.

If you accept pitches are flatter, there's no so much quality around bowling wise(as compared to the 80's or 90's) then you can put 5-10 runs on an average these days.

He's a good player don't get me wrong, but ive seen all the Aussies over the last 30 years and this guy won't match up to your other excellent players-langar,waugh,pointing,hayden,hussey etc.....

I could be wrong of course
 :)
I must agree with you Smiths technique is awful and im not quite sure how noone has seemed to bother to target his weaknesses early on

The batting is excellent from Amla and de kock. It's looking very easy for SA.

Jordan looked like a school kid giving Amla throw downs earlier.

Just as Kohli is hunting down Tendulkar's 49 ODI hundreds. This kid de Kock looks to be giving it a good go as well. Already up to 10 hundreds

Beat kohli to ten apparently(although I believe that may be age rather than games, Nick knights commentary is poor at best)

It took Kohli 83 ODIs to reach 10 Tons including an innings which he DNB and 2 innings where the team DNB so 80 innings, QDK took 55 innings (including this).

When exactly has Smith ever been 'average'? His first few Tests he was mugged off and played as a leg spinner. His batting record throughout all levels has been fantastic. Whether he maintains his average or not, he'll average 50+ when he's retires.

And I don't see Root being any class apart from Smith.

He was massively average when messer flintoff took him apart. He was dropped and went back to shield cricket. He has changed his technique and since coming back has done very well Except when the ball is moving, then he looks avg again (same as most modern players). To sum up, again the back drop of modern players who are in the most part white ball players he is one of the best. Is he a patch on some players of yesteryear ?? No in my opinion but the game is more white ball orientated even in tests than before so tbh, you can't compare modern players with your pontings, heydens, langers, martyn etc.

Root is a different player to smith, totally different style. Root has just as many weaknesses as smith (outside off stump early on which as he keeps being touted as a top order bat is horrendous).

Both are modern batsmen so let's just judge them against those around now. Avg 50+ now is not comparable to a ponting/Lara/kallis etc

QDK is prolific when he gets going. He has been through a rough patch in 2015 and its good to see him comeback and lead the way. Gritty determination from both the openers to level the series. Giving up test captaincy seems to have freed Amla from shackles. Superb century today.

Now its time for england to come up with stocks in the next game ! Another Butler magic on cards then ??
