Big Boots
« on: February 29, 2016, 11:02:29 AM »

Mate's son is looking for size 15 bowling boots. He's U16, ranked fastest in the country at age group last year but can't get boots that fit. Anybody got any ideas? Might have to explore spiking up some shoes if no alternative but would prefer proper boots.

Totally off topic, but I was expecting a thread about which car you can fit the most kit in  :-[

I think you may need to go down the spiking route - 15 is a big old shoe size. If you ahve good contacts with the county your son plays with you could also see if they can approach a kit sponsor directly with you to get some custom cricket shoes made up.

Cricket shoes tend to go up to size 14. New Balance come up a little small so I imagine 14.5 wont be of much use.

Cheers for the replies. Has a pair of NB 4040 X-Wide UK 14.5 now but they're tight. Custom made is an option but suspect he won't like the Fred Trueman look! Spiking is an option but unsure what best show would be for stability. He's a big unit and will hit 85 mph this year. That's a lot of strain on the sole and toe box.

Anybody had a full sole spike done in the UK? I know that the Taunton Shoe Doctor does a great job with a 2 piece sole but haven't seen a solid fast bowlers boot spiked up yet.

Higher cut tennis shoes or basketball boots are probably the better options. We have supplied single piece soleplate spiking to many people, it does depend on the style of shoe of course.
