I heard recently Warner tapes every bat the same and breaks them often because they are so dry to get those huge profiles down to 2.12. I  thought beforehand jeez he loves that bat with the tape.

I've heard Warner himself say that he is one of the few that oils his bats. Why would he do that if dryness is what he's after?

I imagine so, or maybe just a childhood habit.

Was one of those 'what's in your kit-bag?' interviews.

He might have said he liked his bats to last, but I can't remember.

I agree that pros probably don't care much and are happy to use as many free bats as needed..

BUT, I've seen "zero preparation" bats destroyed in club nets (here is an example, skip to the 45s mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1zbBDUhLlo)

...so how can they survive the pros' rigorous practice sessions? Maybe they don't care about any damage, until the bat literally snaps in half....

The main difference is that a "pro" will middle the ball and time it to perfection, so the delicate edge and toe areas just don't get hit. Compare that to most other players who edge more and time very little and therefore need all the knocking in possible plus more!

Based on the condition that most of the pro bats i've repaired are in when they arrive to me, i'd say you are right.

I have no idea about the preperation (or possible lack of), but Eoin Morgan is clearly attached to this bat! (Picture courtsey of @smilley792)

to get the best out of your bat, you either get use to it before you use it, or you borrow someone else's bat in the faith that they are a bat geek and have done the prep for you (or someone else did it for them).

Inzi use to borrow bats (according to wasim akram) e.g. waqars bat.. and asked him, waqar can i borrow your bat, at the fall of a wicket, so waqar couldn't really say no.

if you get use to your own bat, you will either know it has been prepared or you get it hand knocked in by a professional. i do this and i don't play internationals. and even then you would like to try it out in the nets for a few though downs ( at least ) just to be 100% sure. the real batsman do their homework and look after their kits as much as anything.

I think this "they don't care because they can have as many free bats as they want' stuff is utter drivel.

Morgan, in particular, seems to get very attached to certain bats. I have seen him bat with one with a sizeable chunk missing from one of the edges.
