We have introduced a rule where is someone pulls out for an unacceptable reason (such as a hangover) after selection, they have to pay any replacement's match fee.

We've also introduced a £2 late fee, where by anyone arriving after the designated meet time has to pay the fine. Unfortunately some people have decided paying the £2 is worth it so that they don't have to do any of the jobs (white line marking, put chairs out) so I'm campaigning for the fine to be doubled for each successive late arrival.

Our 1st XI have a late fine of £1 per every 10 minutes without a decent excuse. They also have a job rotor for who does what, so there's no getting out of doing your duty. It has worked well so far as it's avoided the same few people doing all the jobs before/after the game every week and nobody is rocking up 10 minutes before the start any more.

Good move but a
Fine of £ 2.00 for not doing any jobs I know a few who would see that as a good deal

Yeah, the rule was originally that they'd be made to pay £2 and spend 30 minutes on the roller after the game but that doesn't seem to have happened. I like the jobs rota, will forward that to the rest of my committee.

Or drop them for a week. I think instead of paying a replacements match fee, they should just have to pay thier fee anyway. Double subs = More money in the bank. Still a good idea though, wish we had it in place at my club.

Setting up is part of the day for me. If you don't set up, you can't play.

All well and good but you can't play a game with 8 players!

Best system I've seen was at a previous club - the 1s had a rigid system of first 5 to arrive would crack on setting the ground up and in return they can just get in the shower/bar straight away after the game while the late arrivals have to put everything away. Far more motivating than losing your spare change! Not that we ever had a problem with people turning up late, but that made damn sure everyone got there early.

With a job rota why not make it that if  player  cannot  do the work he is responsible for finding a replacement.

So if his job is say boundary flags and he just doesn't do it.. Do you start the game still without them? Of course not, some mug will do it.

As someone below said, these rules are great as are 'no pay no play' for subs but most teams simply won't drop players as they only care about winning

This has got to be the worst season for me personally, I've matched my highest score this season, however I've been getting out with small starts coming in as a hitter. Bowling wise I have yet to pick up a wicket and don't bowl myself too much due to having the Captaincy. I've also dropped a few catches, my fielding has dipped. I feel the Captaincy has taken the hit on my own performance as I'm more looking for the team and getting the best out of them while sacrificing myself.

Today was a tense game, we won by one run on the final ball!

I finally won the my first toss as Captain (1 out of 7 now!) and batted first. Posted a modest total of 121 in a T20 with a small five minute delay in the 6th over where the covers where brought on so thought stopped a little bit of our momentum as our number 1 and 3 had just got themselves settled.

Everyone contributed with the bat with and the number one putting on a partnership of 17 from 7 in the late overs with hard running! Opener carried his bat until the end not out on 40*.

Second innings, I mixed up the bowling, our main bowler bowled 2, then the second bowler 4 on the trot with an economy of 3.8. Bowler number 3 bowled 2 and kept it tight, bowler 4 went for 10 in his first over and told me to take him off, I told him not to worry and finish his over first.

Looks as if game is slipping away a little here as the opposition was quite above the asking rate.

Brought in the spinner(opening batsman) who got a wicket first ball and a maiden and then went for two in the next over. Bowled a wicket to wicket bowler for number 6 went for 5.5 per in two overs keeping things quite neat.

Brought in the main bowler to bowl 2 on the trot now, good overs...

However things were tight now...fielding started to deteriorate...

I bring myself on for one over...dot...dot..Things looking a little better now....FOUR!....SIX!!! Next ball LBW appeal which was out but not given??!! so that's a dot...dot...

Score tumbling down, 28 from 24.

Tense...Game swung in momentum with those two boundaries.

Brought back in bowler number One...some dots, a wicket, and a couple of twos from some misfields and a drop catch...slipping away it seems.

Spinner comes on...2...DOT...DOT...FOUR!!!...A misfield, FOUR!!!...DOT.

18 from 18

I then bring bowler number 3 from a different end and switch him with the spinner so the spinner isn't bowling the final over.

4 runs and a wicket next over by bowler number 3

14 from 12

Spinner...three twos coming from his last over with a few fumbles which give the twos, and a crucial one for the opposition on the last bowl of the over putting their opening batsman who's been hitting them well on strike!

8 from 6 now needed!

Last over getting tense nerves in the field, everyone back on the boundaries.

First ball 1...DOT...WICKET!!! Screaming catch taken by the fielder running back to the boundary!

...1...

6 needed from 2.

Easy right?

NO! What should have been no run turned into 2!!! In eager to get a run out, a throw is made to the bowlers end...MISSES!!! Thrown back to the keeper to get the other batsman out, MISFIELD!!! Thrown again to the bowlers end and two are taken!

Last ball...4 needed from 1.

Easy? Should be!

Batsmen run for 2...and HE'S RUN OUT!!! He's just more than halfway down the crease! However, the opposition umpire does not give it and the batsmen scamper back for a second despite the ball being dead! Quick thinking ball thrown to the keeper and stump is taken out, ball taps the stump...and GAME OVER!!!

VICTORY!!!  :D

It is a shame that they tried to cheat on the last ball, their umpire at the end looked sheepishly guilty when shaking everyone's hand, and the Captain himself running the last one despite the ball being dead and saying "umpire didn't call it".

Well all round performance by the boiz and good nerves despite losing it in the field with a few overthrows. Entertaining game and what a first league game to win as a Captain!

It was nice to hear by some guys that "it was the Captaincy that won it", but it was a collective performance all round by the guys. THE VICTORY FELT SO GOOOOOOD!!!!!

Half way through the season and were sat mid table hopes at the start of the season were to challenge for the promotion places but as per usual we flatter to deceive, my run of form doesn't help averaging a nearly 35, making loads of starts but still haven't notched a score of 50 plus yet hopefully things will start to change in the final 10 games of the season

@Slyboogy

Great recap, the combination of middx beating York's and too much coffee had me biting my nails through it

Well I'm skipper this week, and it's an away game to Ventnor! That bought it's own issues of people refusing to play overseas because of the time we get back.

Having just sorted the travel arrangements it's an 8am meet at the ground and 3 cars are booked on the 9am ferry. That may sound bad enough for some, but I have a team full of kids so they probably didn't know there was an 8 in the morning!

I have a fairly strong looking side at the moment, but it's a long time until Saturday. Don't you just love cricket!

Ouch. Do the league/club reimburse those expenses?

Call it off and play a local team instead!
