Ouch. Do the league/club reimburse those expenses?

The club pay for the ferry but other than that it's treated as a normal away game, so fuel expenses etc are as normal. As a club we've (or will at the end of the season have) had 7 games on the Island. The expense soon adds up!

Call it off and play a local team instead!
It's not that simple unfortunately. If we drop out us and the 4 teams below us at the club get docked points.

Some lovely grounds on isle of wight! Is ventnor the one with the big hill near the pavilion?

Yes, it's called Steep Hill and the ground itself is rather unique, as the square is in a bowl!
Lovely club house though and you feel a bit pro watching the game from on the balcony  ;)

Nice place for cricket the IOW what I remember seeing last summer were  cricket nets on a  parks playing field left undamaged it was at the top of a hill up from a beach not far from where the houseboats are moored outside Bembridge.

I have a team full of kids so they probably didn't know there was an 8 in the morning!
I haven't been awake before 10:30 this week so you've hit the nail on the head with that one!

Played a t20 last night for my club, we batted first and scored 157, one of our young lads scored a cracking 50, just looked different gravy!
We then bowled them out for 122, I picked up 4-21 off 4. So in 5 days I've taken 11 wickets, not a bad week so far

Some rather desperate availability has left the Chertsey Mighty 3XI with a 4-pronged spin attack on Saturday.

I'm the quickest of them, so I am now a fast and nasty opening bowling - I'm going to try a bouncer!

Bouncer... Drag down... Same thing  ;)

Let us know how you get on leading the attack!

I thought about wearing the Denis Lillee / Jack Brooks headband, and marking out a ridiculously long run-up.

Mind games chaps, mind games!

I was brought up on the IOW, and played for several sides over my formative years till the bright lights of the city conjured me away. My favourite ground, and the side I had a couple of great seasons at, was Shanklin - Ventnor were our arch rivals, but then they started bringing in overseas players and stepped up a level or 2.

It's a great place for a tour, in one summer back from uni I once played against the same touring side 3 times in one week (all for different local teams), by the 3rd game they were saying, not you again!

Falling out with the usual Saturday/Wednesday cricket and the ever increasing want to win at all costs, and even he abuse growing from my own team when some makes a mistake. I decided to lower my availability and play lms.

Signed up on website and was allocated to a team needing players.
First 4 attempts to play rained of.
Tonight my first game.

Amusingly I new everyone of the opposition well, I had never met a single person from my won team before tonight.

The oppo also accused me of being a ringer(it was banter), when they had the check to turn up for lms with there paid pro in tow! So much for a less win at all costs game.

Anyway they batted first and out on 216 for 0. The over seas scoring his 50 retired from only 19 balls.

My team had heart, but I was starting to realise why I was being called a ringer.

We made our way to 135 for 3 from out 20 overs. I opened and retired on 50 from 29balls. But never got a chance to return.
It nearly wasn't that, first ball it was floated in halfway down track, rocked back to pull and it didn't bounce and I froze and just watched it skim the off stump, the bails wobbled but thankfully did not fall.

An eye opener and not sure I like the pink balls, can't pick them up well when fielding. Ran past a few.

Sad to hear WAAC and sledging/own team abuse is causing yet more issues with players. Hopefully you keep playing sat/sun stuff as the game can't afford to lose players.. Even you biffers :)

I hate this captaincy lark!

Several phone calls later I have 11 again (but it is only Thursday night). Lost an all rounder to the 1st team and have a 17 year old "aggressive batsman" playing his 2nd game of the season as a replacement. Not exactly a like for like replacement but I can only do the best with that I have I suppose.

Poor draw last Saturday, Coleshill held on 8 down but we dropped 8 catches. Now missed 13 in two weeks! Got caught cover slicing one after walking up the wicket for 11 off 6. Survived a hat trick ball lbw appeal by the skin of my teeth as well!
Nice comfy win on the Sunday, bowled oppo out for 138 and we chased it two down. Got bowled, yorked by the balls third bounce, for 41 but didn't grumble as we were well in control.
I can also now add a league winning colts coach to my resume, very pleasing to see my lads smash their way to victory for a 6/6 record, with their only loss this season being to a side led by a Northants academy bat who is going to Bunbury.
Playing Taplow/ @meats tomorrow, and we have a pretty strong side out.

No idea what side we've got out but as Ramadan has now finished I would expect us to be close to full strength. I'm not playing but I'll come down and score - my season's been finished by a Yaya leg side wide which broke my little finger in 2 places. Literally just got back from hospital and having 2 wires drilled into my little finger!

@mohawks94 surprised to see Coleshill down there as their bowling wasn't that bad against us but batting not too strong after top 4.
