Big win today! Won by 180 odd runs, hit 275 ao with a top score of 65 and another 50 and @19reading87 hitting 42 everyone else chipping in, I was 0 not out!
Then we bowled them out for 80 odd! I took 5-1-18-2 and @uknsaunders got a wicket late in! Game played in good spirits by both teams was good to finally win a league game for ashorne!!!

I hate cricket

I can't decide if I'd get more pleasure from having a bonfire with my kit or chucking it off a bridge somewhere...

Is this why we've gone from GN to H4L to Hunts? Who's next?  :D

You can laugh at me tomorrow when I either don't bat or score 8 before taking a wild swing.

On the plus side it's a 13:30 start which should mean I'm home in time for Robot Wars

I hate cricket too, never thought I'd feel this way but at the moment I really feel like taking a break from the game, something I've never done for 30 years. Had perfect batting conditions for me today, but struggled painfully, made an excruciatingly slow 12, beaten countless times, it was just embarassing. God knows I tried.  All my theories about trying to stop myself falling over didn't work so back to the drawing board over the winter I think :(

Yesterday was a bit special for me, I got my maiden 50!

I'm a bowler but trying to improve my batting, and my previous high score was 36. I have been batting at No 9 for the firsts, and so far this season in 5 games I have only been called on to bat 3 times, including one forgettable short innings, and 2 not outs blocking out the final overs for us to get a draw. Total runs 7.

Today I played for the 2nds as I'm carrying a bit of a hamstring injury. Skipper put me down as No 6 so figured I would get a bat, but didn't expect to be going in at 4 for 24 in the 8th over!

Their openers were still bowling and it took me 16 balls to get off the mark - I was just focusing on not getting out. But then I got into my stride and started playing some decent shots. I reached my maiden fifty 38 balls later!

I managed to get to 90 (riding my luck a bit on the way) and I really should have got a ton, but it was ridiculously hot and I lost a bit of focus, missing an inswinging Yorker from their opener who had come back on. The skipper and I put on a partnership of over 150 (he got 73), and we ended up with 212 all out from 43.

Unfortunately we didn't get the win. They managed to last out their overs scoring 164 for 8 wickets. I bowled 14 overs in 3 spells ending with 1 for 16.

So massively pleased with myself for getting my maiden 50 and going on to get a decent score, but bit annoyed I didn't convert it to a maiden ton, and that we didn't manage to win.

At last I have provided justification for spending so much money on kit and having way too many bats for a bowler, think I prefer allrounder now  :D

By the way I was using my Aldred Spectre and it was great.

Absolute hammering yesterday. Bowled really badly, fielded well and then batted poorly. Personally got a good ball, Bouncer at the head and skied it on the hook 🙈

Does mean finally we can kind of say we aren't in the title race which as a team/club we don't want, sod 0900 starts for travel! Plus, we don't have he availability or depth to compete at glow/wilts so we'd just have a season of struggle against teams overseas stars which wouldn't be fun.

Seconds won with a weak team to keep them third (sadly none of them are even close to first team level) and sets up a potential winner takes all game next week cause @Jamesfield team.. I suspect and hope a few (legally allowed of course) players who may usually play 1's may find themselves in the 2's to ensure victory :)  2xi need out of that division, it's too low to be of any use to any out of,form 1xi and too low to take any performances seriously as some of the teams are weak as hell

Cheeky but that's league cricket apparently, no sense of sporting behaviour.

3xi lost but sadly they did have a load of kids in this week so we're just completing a fixture really.

Bore draw helped by some appalling umpiring. Two games in a row I've had clear catches given not out, this time oppo opener smashed it into his pad and was caught at gully, started to walk then stopped. Also two very adjacent lbws turned down, two catches dropped at slip off me, a very frustrating day really. Also got a lecture on the lbw laws about appealing when a batter was hit outside off 'playing a shot' when he hid his bat behind his pad.

We batted first and got 267/7 from 50. Openers put on 160, then we all had a bit of fun. I smacked 15 quickly but am now in trouble with the club chairman for being caught reverse sweeping when id just pulled and driven fours off the same bowler. Apparently I was 'batting like a god, smashing everything' before messing it up, but the shot was on, just a mishit! Opened the bowling and over 2 spells got 14/5/29/2, one lbw that the ump finally gave, the other a tasty bowled, drifted across the leftie opener then spun back from outside off to take middle stump. Penn showed no interest in chasing our total on a rapid outfield, only got to 170 from response, which means we've both done taplow a massive favour in the table.

Isn't cricket a funny game. After a pair last weekend got 70 yesterday. Came out at 40-5 and put on 125 for the 6th wicket.

Started the inning terribly faced around 25 balls for only 4 and felt/looked terrible, bit of luck with some swings and misses but then suddenly everything started to click and ended up feeling really comfortable

We ended up winning by 65 runs thanks to a fantastic display of left arm swing from our young 17 yo opener knowing their top 3 over cheaply.

Yes mate. Firsts lost again. Pitch at Godmanchester was reported too for being dangerous.
