@meats yep, though I'm probably playing seconds as I have a wedding reception in the evening!
@ProCricketer1982 they never had any intent to chase, they were 70 points clear in the league before yesterday, and could have chased it as they made a steady start and their top bat who was playing came in at 5 against a nearly new ball on a rapid outfield.
Didn't help that the pitch died a bit, but there was no positivity in their innings.

Attacking fields, change bowling regularly.. Tempt them. No one can resist a pie etc.

It can be frustrating but generally it's usually because one team scores too many and doesn't have the bowling to back it up. Win/lose is about economy, draw is economy but also wickets. If you can't take wickets you won't win. Win/lose you just blast runs and wait for the batsmens to get themselves out. Far less skill and tactics

But are you frustrated by the oppos lack of intent or your own teams shortcomings?

We play win/lose, but teams very rarely put on more than 300. I don't think run-a-ball is "hit and biff" cricket. So it's also about executing both skills. However I think draw cricket would add that extra dimension of digging in rather than just slogging and hoping for the best. Obviously in win/lose theres very little point in digging in or "having a net".

Update: still hate cricket

I'm not the only one who stews on stuff like this right? Although it appears next weekend we have some kind of 2x15 over stag do game on the Saturday followed by a Sunday TBC. With any luck this might be the weekend I need to find the slightest bit of rhythm...

Using the rhythm method on a Stag do is recommended.

battled thru across west London to tower hamlets Saturday, to say it's a toilet would be an understatement, 100 overs for one point draw, got 11 myself off 3 balls and then watched my team mates slap around the second string bowlers.
another bat broke too, not sure which bat-god I have upset but i'm truly sorry.

despite that, I want to put it right this Saturday. i'm a cricket addict  :)

Just found out I've gone to the top of the wicket taking in my club, I play a lot of games, but still 50'overs behind everyone else at the club due to not starting the season at the club.  So I'm pretty pleased with that, although still along way to go in the season. Just want to keep up my momentum

Bowlers were rotated, we have a varied attack with strong spin options and left and right arm seamers. We always had at least one slip, gully, plus catchers at short leg, silly mid off, so our captain, who took a blinder at short leg, wasn't being negative. Potentially a really bold thing to do would have been to win the toss and bowl then chase rather than failing to whittle away for 50 overs.
A bit of both really, our catching has been shocking, but to show no intent whatsoever was the main frustration.

On a happier note than my previous post, made my debut for Frogs Cricket Club yesterday, a wandering team our keeper at st Giles plays for. Batted four, and went in with 18/20 overs left. Dropped on a sharp caught and bowled chance on 4, went on to get 62* and top score, my first b3 50, also being dropped in the deep in the 40s with the ball going for 4. Total of 220 seemed good, but the outfield seemed to speed up a lot/oppo hit the ball a lot harder than some of our gents, and we lost inside 35 overs. Got one wicket as well but didn't bowl as well as I have been recently.

Nice win in the Beds Sunday League yesterday.

Last time we played the oppo we were bowled out for 60, and apparently before the game one of their lads was overheard saying '' they're awful, we'll be done by 5 ''

We were done by 6, but it was us with all 30 points. Batted first and made 178-7 off our 40, was next man in but wasn't needed. Then opened the bowling and took 3-27 off 4 overs  (plus a run-out off my bowling!) They were 82-5 off 10 overs, with their big hitter who got 130 off 50 the previous day coming in next, we got him out in the 20's and it was plain sailing from then as we bowled them for 118 off 21 overs.

Just played French cricket in the park. It seems that my broken finger isn't yet up to the rigour of tapping a tennis ball about 😔

We lost our 4th game on the spin on Saturday, really frustrating as it was a close run thing, chasing 242 and ending up 234ao  (I was last man out).  Funny reading all of the talk about win/lose, in the Essex Cricket League we play 8 games of time games with 8 win/lose in the middle (so the season is 4 time matches, then 8 45over win/lose, followed by the remaining 4 time games).  Over the course of a 16 game season you play every side once in each format, and it has been well received.

It's clear our side is better at the time matches, we were comfortable until the 45 over matches came in and we are now in the relegation zone.

We do the same but the other way round in our league. Limited overs at the start and end of the season and timed in the middle. I generally prefer limited overs to timed but having it split this way is pretty fair I think.

All versions of the game require different skills

time or 100 over draw cricket demands that you have good bowlers who can take wickets
win/lose cricket creates exciting finishes or drab drubbings

As long as you limit overs bowlers can bowl in all forms then you will get more people playing cricket.
