Played a kinda knock around game for a stag do of a close friend of the clubs. Voluntarily kept wicket for 18 overs and never doing it again, eff that. Stags mates were all marathon/cross country runners and all fairly poor, but put up 124 in 25 overs. Bowled an over at the end and took a wicket. Batted #3 and retired at 25*; just good to get out there and bat on ball to be honest.

Playing for potential new club away to Banstead tomorrow, just hope it's fun.

The cricketing gods were against me this afternoon. Firstly had an LBW appeal turned down with the umpire saying "the ball pitched middle but was swinging away" to which I felt compelled to inform him that I am actually bowling offspin. Couple of overs later I then bowled the same batsman only for the same umpire to no-ball me on height despite the fact the ball hit him on the pads before crashing into the base of middle stump. I was still wicketless in my last over when a youngster spooned a catch to our skipper who proceeded to drop it.

Opposition posted 178 on what appeared to be an absolute road to bat on so after our batting performance last week, I fancied our chances given they apparently only had 2 "proper" bowlers.  These 2 chaps bowled out (20 overs) but it was the part-time bowlers who started to pick up wickets with seemingly off innocuous deliveries which from the comfort of some well positioned seating, should have been hitting the fence. I got into bat when we were 6 down with around 80 on the board but with 13-14 overs against bowlers who weren't going to leave seam-marks on my toes, I was well up for it. I quickly cracked 2 deliveries for 4 then go to pull what looked like a long hop down the leg side but it bounced up from absolutely nowhere and I glove it to the keeper.

Despite the umpiring irregularities, match played in a good spirit and we really only have ourseleves to blame as put down too many catches in the early part of their innings.

Well what a day!
Away to Cheltenham Civil Service, in a must win, top of the table clash! Earlier in the season we played them at home and they thrashed us, hitting 300 and something. With @ProCricketer1982 suggesting 1st teamers would be dropped into chelt 2's to help them try and win, we were worried about a big beating.

Cheltenham put us in, on what looked to be a decent track, we soon however found out why we were put in, with balls bouncing all over the place and cutting in of tufts in the pitch. We struggled to 178-7 and thought we were done for, especially with there captain saying 220 was a par score - (was a total twit). I made 5 and got out to a cutter that hit my thigh pad and then the stumps - didnt think it was going to be my day...

Cheltenham got off to a slow start and were on around 70 of 22 with 4 wicket. We thought we were in with a slight chance of winning until one of their batsmen got to 50 and chelt were about 120-5 needing the 60 off about 15 overs! Then myself and a team-mate came on and bowled very tightly and i ended up picking up 4-30 off 7!
Chelt needed 9 off the last over (which i was bowling) and were 9 wickets down, i bowled the last guy 4 balls in which meant we got 19/20 points in a game which we thought we'd bottled.

In all the game was fiercly contested with the  cheltenham umpires not giving 2 absolutly plum LBW appeals. Wides suddently started to be given no matter what was bowled as long as it didnt hit the bat... Fairplay to the 2 batsmen that walked when they edged it behind because there was no way the umpires would of given it!

Should now be top of the league, if not level! What a great day :)

Cricketing gods were definitely against me today - opened the batting and made 44 before stretching for a quick single - felt a pop in my right leg - hamstring strain/tear - great - luckily fairly minor I can walk and jog very very lightly - but any sort of explosive motion and I'm done for - so not sprinting turning etc. So having heard this popping - I hit the next ball for 4 thinking there is no way I'm running - I saw I was on 48 and then thought no way am I retiring hurt on 48 so limped a very ginger 2 and called it a day (good for the average after all) was really annoying though as that is the best I've felt all season and felt I deserved more after the first 12 overs where we were 12-1 - I did all the hard work and got injured - not a happy bunny.  then our 3 and 4 proceeded to make 90 and 78 respectively as we posted 242-1 (demoralising day for them) we then got them 170-7 but couldn't get the last three - winning draw with max batting points and 3/5 bowling points - not a bad days work - tomorrow looks in jeopardy tho!!!

Got myself promoted back up to the second team at my club after a good run of performances, bowled 15 overs straight at what is one of the smallest grounds in suffolk with the straight boundary being 35 yards!
I picked up 4-70, which im pleased with. Hopefully helps me retain a place next week, sadly we lost as the second innings the pitch was turning even more for there spinners. So counts us out of the title race pretty much,

Got leisurely 48 yesterday.

Opened chasing 158. Oppo had a poor side out, 1 very good bowler, 1 half decent bowler and not much else.
So rained myself in and saw the first two bowler diff and then took apart the change bowlers.
Unfortunately got exciting and top edged a half tracker down Tilly's throat. Jug avoidance.

62 balls for 48 and not a single boundary in my first 41 balls. Quite restrained.

We won with 11 overs left. Despite these being top 4 games ago, they never once looked interested in attacking and it was deffo a 250 par pitch. With a short down hill boundary.

Got launched around by Tom Westley's uncle yesterday who scored around 140, they posted 302 off their 50 overs. We managed to chase it down with a good two overs to spare. Quality game of cricket, I even took a wicket which shows how desperate we were for bowlers!

Team lost yesterday but we were missing players and didn't want to take 2's players so had a few randoms filling the line up. Spicy wicket which was good fun opening on as it was nipping about and that's enjoyable to face. Partner got cleaned up, 3 nicked off and didn't walk (he's a tool) and very next ball spooned up a crap on the up drive.. I won't lie, I laughed at him for being a tool.

Our 4 then broke his ankle and is out for the season so we'd lost what little batting we had bar me within about 9 overs (score was about 45-2. Plodded along nicely and was simply aiming to bat through tbh.. Off spinner bowls 2 consecutive leg side wides (pitching middle/leg and turning and I just move inside the line and it misses leg stump.. 3rd one I decide not to move and tickle it. Miss it.. Appeal and out lbw.. 3rd disgusting umpire decision this season when well set.

Defo reviewing if I want to continue playing with panel umpires for next year as they simply ruin to many innings to warrant the effort, time and money I put into cricket.

Enjoyable game though, played in good spirits and the Oppos were good enough to even realise we were under strength rather than be cocky. So we got them four jugs post match as a thanks.

So back in the 1s this week after being in the 2s all year and taking wickets for fun! Came on for the final 8 overs and went 4-0-19-3 (considering the last over of the innings went for 10 had i reigned that in my figures would have looked better)

Fudged my knee though! Batsman went to give himself some room so stopped in my delivery stride, front knee bent the wron way and thought id done my ACL in a similar way to Kurt Zouma... Rolled around a bit until our skip whos a physio checked it out and said there shouldnt be at y damaged but should take it easy... Still steamed in for the last 4 balls. Show no pain! Feeling it today though!

We held out for a draw, they scored 200-8 off 50 we were 180-8 off 43.. Damn the shorted second innings!

They took 16 points, we took 15.. Close game!

Mixed day for me yesterday.

We batted first and posted 288-5, the skipper opening the innings and making 147 and our number 5 got 38 off about 12 balls at the end.

I "dropped a catch" in the first over (fielding at short extra, I got a hand to a full blooded drive that went for 4). My first spell with the ball was a disaster, I got the yips and sent down a mixture of wides, half trackers and even a beamer.

The better news - I took a worldie of a catch at short mid wicket, the batsman nailed it off one of our quick and stood there expecting a boundary as there was nobody back. I dived and stuck my right hand out, I watched the ball go past me then it just stuck in my hand. I felt like (a shorter, fatter and less ginger) Ben Stokes!  ;)

I had a second spell where I cleaned up their number 7. I managed to drag my figures back to 1-42 off 7 and we won!
