From batting number 11 on Saturday, my Sunday couldn't of been even better. Batted number 5 in a development game chasing a small total of 176 which on our grounds fairly small as the track is usually very good to bat on and the outfield is big so there's plenty of 2s and 3s. My main role is a bowler so I bat down the order on Saturdays but occasionally bat up the order on Sunday's. We had a solid start with our opener getting 60 odd but our numbers 2 and 3 struggled. Our number 4 was batting well, I joined him when he was on 20 odd needing between 60-70 to win (I don't recall the exact scores). After taking a couple of balls to set my self I then started thinking of my scoring opportunities. I have hardly spent anytime in the middle this season so I haven't had to build an innings for a little while but it all came back to me, playing straight drives and flicks/flamingo's through the leg side and eventually being able to play a decent cover drive (it's my get me out shot when I'm in bad form) but I played this one through the gap at extra cover for 4 which was my highlight of the innings. I eventually lost my partner at number 4 for 47 but we only needed 15 to win or so and myself and number 6 knocked them off with ease. I think everyone was shocked as normally I like to play shots as batting down the order that's normally what I need to do but I spaced myself out and just waited for the bad balls which felt fantastic as a bowler batting like a top order batsmen, my favourite part of the season

Great self-discipline!!

Our game on Saturday was marred by a disgusting act of gamesmanship from the opposition. We were on the verge of victory, having them 9 down with about 8 overs left, when the opposition captain marched out to announce to our captain that the game was finished as it was 7.20. A big argument ensued and eventually we played on in a sombre atmosphere having sent him away to show us in the playing regs where it said this. Strangely enough he never returned and thankfully we finished them off.  Checking afterwards, I found the time clause only applies if the minimum number of overs has been bowled, as an incentive to speed up over rates, so he was blatantly trying to con our skipper.

Still, poetic justice in the end, and I took a worldie in the gully to get rid of their best bat  :)

Assuming it's a 40+ over game if you oniy have 8 overs left then the min (usually around 20) overs had been bowled ? Not saying that it's not bad form but not sure if that is in the rules why you didn't stop?

The rules are, in the absence of weather interruptions, games finish when 95 overs have been bowled or at 7.00 pm (not 7.20), whichever is later.

Makes no sense having a time if you can go over it ? Am I missing something ?

Sounds like the game is due to finish at 1900 so people get the over rate up etc? I must be missing something tbh

I think the idea is to incentivise teams getting through their overs quickly, especially bowling second.  The team batting first can't bat beyond 50 overs anyway.  In a team I used to play for in the Surrey Championship many years ago, we used to race through our overs bowling second and occasionally this meant we'd get some extra overs in which made the difference between taking 10 wickets and a draw.  It's a small way of lessening the advantages of fielding first (team bowling second often gets less overs and has to take 10 wickets).  On Saturday our oppo had a pretty lousy over rate - one of their medium pacers had a run-up the length of Michael Holding - so there was no way we could have got our overs in by 1900 so to cut off then would have been completely unfair.  Making more sense?

i personally think we should all start at 11 and have 45/50 over each. regardless of time. start early finish early get drunk earlier than normal

Sadly this happened on Saturday.

Needing 31 off 10 overs with 6 wickets in hand when I got myself out I thought we would cruise to victory to give ourselves a nice bumper at the top of the table over 3rd place who we were playing...alas that wasnt the case :-(

Looking forward to playing on Saturday and the rest of the season as only played 8 matches so far due to a poor decision by me in the winter to change to a club who took my annual subs in April and then told me when i asked why i had been dropped that I would only get a game when others weren't available but I could still prepare the facilities midweek ready for Saturday
returned to my old club in mid May but my Mother became seriously ill 200 miles way in mid june which led to me being away from home most weekends until last week.

they approached me in the winter and asked me to join the committee i soon worked out from the commitee meetings before the season started they were a clique and I had made a mistake only joined so home matches would be ten minuities from where I live
Was going to ask for my Annual Subs back as they would have known before they took my  money my opportunites would have been limited but my wife advised me to just walk away found out later that they had done the same thing to others  previously.

Oh right ok.

So their skipper was technically OK to call it a day then but morally suspect

5 run outs in the day? village!

4 direct hits in fairness which at amateur standard is a rarity 🙈
