2 games in and 2 cancellations.dont you love the British weather...

As I've been told not to play football r a few weeks due to a broken thumb and damaged ligaments the earliest game I'll be able to play will be 4th June.

This season is going to be incredibly frustration.

Half baked and cold!! 2 cancellations so far but a good chance of getting 3 games in this weekend. Southern/Hants Leagues start next weekend and we need to get some proper match practice.

Season aims:
Manage the season without picking up an injury (feeling old at 24)
Get a fifer (not managed this for a few seasons)
Actually get a bat after only 8 innings in 26 games...

Just been told I'm in the 1s tomorrow, we are 6 regular 1XI players down vs Saffron Walden who were relegated last year (We were promoted) so basically just lambs to the slaughter...

Also just found our the Mrs is pregnant and this is my last season for a few years so now determined to make the most of it.

Seems as if I'm dropped from the seconds team because I didn't pay my membership before the pre-season games due to the lack of funds.

Not a good start and not games yet

Sounds fair to me. I know on a personal level it's harsh but clubs should really all adopt that method really

100% agree. Too many people think they shouldn't have to pay. It's always the same guys who never turn up to help the groundsman or who always turn up late for the meet time.

I totally agree with this, but sadly I think we'd struggle to fill a side if we only selected people who had actually paid their membership at my club.
 
Makes me wonder why I bothered paying mine as the club seem happy to turn a blind eye. I can't even play yet due to injury, and nobody who's getting a game every week has bothered...

I think all teams should employ the "paid up members get selected first" policy.


If your struggling for a side etc, then sometimes turning a blind eye may seem okay. But if there are players blind refusing to pay but it's obvious they have money(usually as they show off how much the spent down town last night) then I think I'd rather play a few men down then pick those sorts.


Remember clubs need money to survive! Not all clubs have a silver spoon in there mouth.


If you genuinely can't pay(money issue/jobless/student/emergency reasons) then discussion with your club and I'm sure they will be willing to help out in someway(monthly payments, small deduction etc).
But if you've got no money because you've merely spent it all, well you don't have my sympathy as the club fees come round the same time every year. It doesn't take a genius to plan it into what you need to spend that month!

My old club was £72 for the year and this included the new seasons playing shirt with new season sponsor etc. You could either pay £72 in one go or if money was a bit tight a Standing order via your bank for £6 per month for 12 months or £12 per month for 6 months.

Maybe other clubs should consider as certainly increased the revenue into the club once they introduced this

Our club does a lot of fund raising throughout the year and has its own bar and stuff, so membership fees are £10 and so theres no excuses !!

Christ on a bike!  I'm getting b*mmed!

Our club is £130 per year + £8 per game.  Plus they are flogging ridiculously overpriced club gear to wear.

I am not buying club gear in protest, particularly as I know the club is on a really solid financial footing, also they booked at least 3 private lettings in the clubhouse on a Saturday night during the season, meaning paid up members largely having to drink outside.

Madness!!!
