XXX9 Hand Crafted
« on: May 05, 2016, 12:19:05 PM »

This is my first posting of a bat on the forum. I am doing it as much as a test to see that I can do it, as for the bat itself.

However onto the bat. I bought the bat from Meulemans over the winter. I was very impressed with them as a company, finding Scott who I dealt with to be very knowledgeable. I suppose his time in FC cricket in Australia has meant that he has seen a lot of good bats, and as such I felt he had good judgement, I would certainly trust his judgement henceforth having received 2 quite fantastic bats from him.

I will post later with my own pictures, and also the specs. The pictures below are the ones he supplied me with prior to buying the bat. The bat itself is quite wonderful in my opinion. It pings beautifully, has a lovely pickup, I suppose owing to the high middle and the spine running into the handle. Surprisingly given the lack of wood towards the toe, it still pings very well in that area.

On sale too at the moment. $300 cheaper than the model that is replacing it.

As promised, here I am posting some more details of the bat.
As mentioned I bought this bat at Meulemans. When I phoned to discuss ordering the bat, in October of last year, Scott mentioned that whilst he still had some in stock, there would be a big batch arriving in December, and as such if I were able to wait until then, he would have a broader selection to choose from. Being in no rush I agreed, and so about six weeks later I received the photos from Scott of his favourite 2 bats from the new batch. Interestingly the one I ended up with was on Scotts recommendation, it was the smaller in terms of volume, but not weight, of the 2 bats, but he felt that the performance on this was superior to that of the bigger brother. Taking his word I took the plunge, and am delighted with the outcome. Whilst not a huge bat in modern terms, its performance is really great, it picks up very nicely, has a lovely balance, pings well throughout the blade and for me the handle is as close to perfection as is possible, hence the extra pictures. It is thin which I, whilst am surely in the minority, very fond of. The top of the handle is very slim and round, and it becomes progressively more oval, arriving at a pronounced oval at the base, but not becoming wider from top to bottom only deeper, if that makes sense. Anyhow I am sure many would put several grips on, to arrive at a desired handle. In my opinion surely it is better that way around, rather than starting of very thick,  and if you like a thin handles you have problems. One other nice detail I seldom see on off the rack bats was the angled toe.

Onto the specs of the bat, thanks to Chad for the format which I "borrowed" from you.

Weight - 2lb 10oz with scuff
Edge - 39mm
Spine - Approx 73mm
Shoulder - 7mm
Toe Edge - 18mm
Toe - 23mm
Concaving - Approx 3mm
Middle height - Approx 22.5cm
Handle - Thin round at top to pronounced oval at the base.

Rating of the bat (out of 5):

Looks: 4
Handle: 5
Pick up: 5
Balance: 4
Performance: 4

Overall very happy with the purchase, and would recommend both the bat & the retailer strongly.
