Do the kook ghosts edges taper....










Well I'd say yes, but we are talking Max of a mm either side. So 2mm in general.


Will this have an effect on a bats performance? Not at all in my eyes.

I have a mate with an custom M&H like that. Utterly pointless and surely if the batmaker cared he would advise the customer not to waste willow on something he will get next to no benefit from.

I think the taper would have to be quite a lot more significant than 2mm for it to make any noticeable weight/pick up difference.

The taper is greater near the middle of the bat, smaller as you move away from the middle. If you were looking from the back, you'd see this sort of shape:    )(


It actually does have a big impact on pickup - probably leads to 0.5 to a full ounce of weight reduction.

Its kinda like concaving - too much and it could limit the hitting area...but a little bit, and you have a better pickup.

Wouldn't this kind of tapering weaken the edges near the sweetspot?

Great to have the proof. Unlike concaving this isn't impacting the middle. Like Salix CTS/CTE bats before, it's a clever of creating a big edge (remember you are digging into a minimal concaved spine and 2mm into the blade might gain another 1mm in height) without the impact the pickup or the middle spread. Not sure it makes a huge difference but would be interesting to see a 4mm either side version with a gradual subtle curve, just to see how much could be taken off. Eventually you would end up with a GN Vortex! One for Streaky and the b3 boys to CAD!

The edges on mine taper between 2-3mm on each side. The tapering starts approximately 6mm from the face.
