Same delivery keeps getting me out
« on: June 05, 2016, 12:54:28 PM »

Over the past couple of weeks, in matches and nets, I have been getting out in the same way. Full delivery starting middle-leg and swinging away from me. I think it may be something to do with the fact I have been planting my front foot in an attempt to get forward and then playing around my front pad rather than hitting straight.
I am not in the best of form, and when I am I usually play the on drive very well, but when I am out of form I find myself trying to flick the ball to the leg side.

Has anyone got any advice on how to improve this situation, should I drill throw downs focusing on hitting straight or is it something to do with me planting my foot?

Thanks!

Few hours hitting balls will sort you out

Hit to mid on lad not mid wicket, worse case scenario you get an inside edge past square leg for two.

How are you setting up Ie trigger and foot work. If it's swinging away maybe trying to get across to off so your fully in line might help you out for the one that swings and then if it doesn't your in a good position to flick leg side as well as a bonus

Practice hitting lots of on drives and straight drives, focusing on balance and position of head (should go towards ball, instead of falling over) and focus on playing only that shot even to balls on leg stump.

I don't really have a trigger movement, when the bowler is coming in I like to be still from the start of his run up. Its just the gentle away swing which seems to do for me as the one that carries on going straight on I flick to leg pretty easily.

Not something I would personally encourage.

I would look to play straight, probably through mid off. Important you don't try to hit the ball too hard. Just let the ball hit the bat and hold your shape.

This is what I am going to do I think, few hours just keeping it really simple and hitting straight. I need to be more flexible rather than just planting my front foot!

The ball I find is too legside to play through mid off and I think that is why I am struggling because I am looking to hit it too hard through midwicket/square leg.

If you a batsman shouldn't be a problem, I was 11 today and should have won us the game but typically lost my head trying to moo a leg spinner somewhere over the legside

1. Set up a Bola machine (at a reasonable speed) to re-create that delivery and practice driving or defending the ball.

2. What I have noticed is that if I plant my foot too early, I never get the line right. Watch the release of the ball to gauge the line before moving your front foot. If the line is leg or middle leg, your toe should point straight down to the wickets (ump side) and your stride should be small. This becomes a lot easier if you habitually move your head first and get it close to the ball. Kevin P has a great line in one of his youtube videos: "kiss the ball".

Good luck. :)

I'm meant to be a batsman! Our 1s yesterday needed three to win in 3 overs with 3 wickets left and 9,10,11 ran themselves out... Captain wasn't best pleased.
