Hi, this is my first post so if it's not in the right area please feel free to move it.

 I've read a lot on the forum about the originality of sticker designs and I understand that there is logically a finite amount of appealing designs that match current trends and that sometimes brands do take inspiration from others.
 Is there a point that you can reasonably say that a company has copied another? And who is to blame for this? Is it the sticker manufacturer?, the people who's job it is to design for the brands? I'm not fully aware of the role an owner has in designing the brand and labels.

I only say this because tonight I noticed Chandimals new SF labels look EXACTLY like another brands (or vice versa( , no inspiration, but copy and paste work. I own some Softs of the other company and have seen the sticker design in question used locally for over a year now.

I certainly don't want to say for certain that somebody has blatantly copied someone because I really have no real idea of the design process and if sticker companies sell designs. I'd consider myself a gear nuffy and keep up to date with a lot of big and smaller brands, I've just not seen anything as close as these are. Is it normal? Is it plagiarism? Some insight into the process and how this might have happened would be greatly appreciated here are some pics, make the judgement for yourself.

Wow they are similar - only difference is the side stickers. To be honest I don't really think many Asian companies care who they are copying - hence all the fake stickers coming out of India - I think many brands think - hey that looks cool, I can make a quick buck out of that, plus the fact these sorts of issues are not nearly as well regulated as over here in the UK. companies could very well sell the rights to sticker/designss as is the protocol over here but I am doubtful that is what happens on a regular basis.

Judging by the shoulders, profile and toe shape - those bats look to have something more in common than just stickers.

Whilst maybe not as crass as this example, I think there are numerous uk based examples of brands borrowing ideas of stickers, names and shapes of bats from other companies, to suggest it is purely an asian problem seems misplaced to me.

May well be made by SF who have also offered to make some stickers up for Icon.  What easier way to do this, than copy one of the sticker designs they already use?!  I don't know that this is the case, so only my 2 penneth.

That's a fair enough assumption, only the icon stickers have been around for over a year now. I'm just curious as I know certain companies mass produce the same softs with different colours and logos. just didn't think they would do it with the stickers that define the brand.

Agreed but you can't really suggest that a shape has been copied because there is only so much innovation with a standard sized bat, names okay maybe a fair point and as you suggest some stickers - but as the OP stated, there is only so much innovation with stickers that you can achieve. However, using the Asian example - often stickers are completely copied with just a changed name - shapes are similar as there are a limited amount of factories but again there isn't much innovation possible and that to me is what makes it different

Cant say I agree. Regarding stickers, its pretty thin to suggest there is only so much that can be done, that is the purpose of design. On that basis there are only so many paintings that can be painted, books that can be written etc. As to shapes, Gray Nicolls for example have continuously innovated over the years, and continue to do so. I am not suggesting that brands have to be innovative, as some are distinct without re inventing the wheel every year, but there is space to make ones own shape, style, name and stickers, without borrowing from others.

Salix & Aldred got similar design for their stickers. Salix are embossed.

Regardless of who makes them, I'm not sure it would make sense for SF to design a sticker, sell it to another brand to put on their Bats, let that brand establish themselves further over 18 months, and then use the design on SF's own flagship Bats. All it does is create doubt around their own image.

Hmmm ....pretty bad , but i think it would be worse if logos were copied , as opposed to sticker design/layout . Must say though, (as unfair as it may be) seeing this kind of thing would put me off both brands.

Some smaller brands have their Indian manufacturer do the artwork (including design), could be what's happened here - lazy if so.
