Ridiculous Pricing
« on: July 03, 2016, 11:24:41 AM »

Just had look at greg chappell website.

Bas players edition $899
Bow 20/20 (listed as grade 2) $799
Bas blaster (listed as grade 3) $299

$799 for a grade 2 bat.
Thats over £450!!!!!
For a grade 2 bat.

Also note the difference in price between grade 2 and grade 3 is $500 (£280).

A mate just bought a beautiful Bow 2020 for approximately 240 pounds.
Player edition too costs around 270 pounds. Weirdly though, the blaster is priced close to the prices here in India.
Anyone with the Ton Gladiator prices going around ??

BAS were expensive last year too. They ended up half price by December.

I'd go for the grade 3.

Greg Chappell center always has ridiculous prices. No idea why ...

Try Kingsgrove, they worked out quite economical for me.

Yeah I started a thread about that a few months ago.

GN 50 + is something like $1,500.00 (including intl shipping etc)
Some Black Edition Puma is listed for $1450.00 on EBay.

These prices are set at this point because there ARE some crappy or out of form players who are ready to pay this much, in a desperate effort to get into double figures.

In my personal opinion,
Brand name, shape, willow number of grains, edge size, concaving, handle shape, duck bill toe, stickers, number of grips, counter balancing, Kohli shape, Tendular profile and what not, are ALL secondary.

What matters the most is, how does the bat feel in your hand in its natural state, before you start dressing it up with additional auxiliary or cosmetic stuff.

an off the shelf $100 grade 2 bat with the right feel and pickup may help you perform better than a $2000 L&W Signature.

Once the bat feels good in hands and it gives the right indication to your brain about the exact location of the sweet spot then it all boils down to your skills against the bowler's skills.

That is factually incorrect. It is available for about USD 700+ including shipping to the US from Aus.

Overall the pricing for bats and softs, has really grown out of relation to inflation and costs, I have been told many times how much willow prices have increased, but I think this has a marginal affect on the overall cost and certainly doesn't amount to the prices we are seeing, in most industries its the retail mark up that magnifies small increments in costs, and on top of this there seems to be a race to the top. Whilst expensive the 50+ xp80 etc are unique and can as such justify a higher price point but the kookaburra ghost for 1100 is bonkers given that whilst a nice profile is by no means unique and is made using inexpensive labour.

The currency issues especially in the uk post brexit certainly don't help with all of my previous post.
