Buying in Mumbai/Delhi & bat tips
« on: September 04, 2016, 10:35:59 AM »

Hi guys,
Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm in Mumbai and Delhi for a week and wanted to buy a bat to bring back to London.

Do you know of any reputable sellers? I've been told about SCS Sports in Mumbai (near Metro Cinema).

I'm also looking for a good bat (GBP 150 or Rs 15k): Fairly heavy (2.10-2.11), thick blade, low bottom. I'm also hoping the retailer can help knock it in for me. What bats would you suggest? I was considering the local ones like SS Tons (Gladiator) or a BDM/SF/SG that feels good. Maybe a Pakistani CA 15000.

Thank you!

Never been, but I hear Diana Sports & Caxton sports near the Metro Cinema are good.

Happy shopping, and welcome to the Forum.

Dhobi Talao is a good place to shop, you can try Champion Sports?

Near metro cinema there are a lotof sports shops that have good quality cricket equipment...

In my particular experience i was looking for Kookaburra stuff, for me after visiting almost all the sports shops in that area the best was Selection Centre Sports SCS from where i bought my bat and pads, my gloves and shoes i bought it in New Ahmedabad Sports (just one street away from SCS) just because they only had left handed in the model i wanted and i needed right hand gloves.

As for Diana Sports, my experience wasnt the best, the bats they had in disply when i went, (november 2015) where old models, specially the Kookaburras they showd me, and when i told them that in fact it was Kookaburra but old models, the salesman and a guy who i guess was the owner didnt liked much and they got angry with me.

Hope my experience help u in getting what u are looking for...

Happy Cricket Shopping...

Check out if you can find a bat from Phoenix cricket, definitely worth every rupee. For your budget I think you can get their top of the line model.

Another vote for SCS sports.  Has a very good selection of various brands including some English made GMs and Gray Nics.  I have bought SS and SG bats from them.  I spent an hour looking at bats and I made them pull out about 20 different bats before I decided on one, they were patient the whole time.  Very good customer service.

Look for a DSC brand bat. I think these are truly unsung heroes of Indian bats.

Shop around and pick nice, highend one in grade 1 English Willow, and you will probably feel a better pick up than SS Ton, and SF and BDM and this and that.

If you are going to Delhi then you might as well visit Meerut where most of the indian bats are made. Its only around an hour (or slightly more) via train/car.

I second that thought, SS BDM, SG, SF all manufacturers are in Meerut. PM me if you would like to goto BDM factory. I went there in March and came back with 2 beauties for around 100 pounds. They are grade 2 english willow bats! Happy shopping!

I ended up visiting a few shops in Bombay. I would have liked to go to the Phoenix guy in Bangalore but didn't have enough time to make it there, as he is slightly outside the main city.

I ended up getting an SS Ton Gold for about 15k (£165). Feels great, slightly on the heavier side. Doesn't have the lowest sweet spot but that's fine I guess. Lovely piece of wood.
