Hi all. Really needing some help regarding an appeal my cricket team has very shortly. I don't want to go into much detail on a general public forum.

Essentially it relates to a decision to award a game to our opponents as we had a player suffer a serious injury and we couldn't continue the match.

Anyone had any dealings with appealing league decisions, are there any directives that we need to be aware of, i.e. from Ecb, sports law etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever relevance it holds, appealing decisions in Australia is usually a long and fruitless task, often followed by a large bill. Committees and boards rarely like to alter results unless there irrefutable evidence of result tampering.

Personal view on the situation is I hope the player in question is okay. At club level, It's just a game at the end of the day and I'd be content to know my mate is okay. If your player was injured through direct action of an opposition player that wasn't a result of natural play, then you may have a case, but unfortunately it seems like the ball is in the oppositions court so to speak. If they decide that they are happy to call it a draw, then you might get the result you're after.

Again, I hope the player in question is okay, and that the spirit of the game can have the last say.

Usually the appeals procedure is in the league handbook

Sad news about an injury to a player, hopefully he recover 100%. As for the game, it's amateur cricket so I wouldn't care about it overly.

I feel you should appeal on the grounds that your players were unable to continue due to the players injury and were in shock, etc.

Might me worth to reference the Australian incident and the Fulham v Tottenham incident. Both games were stopped, abandoned.

Does the fixture have any effect on points and positions in the league? Would you have won the league or avoided relegation? Same for the team that was awarded points? did they profit from it massively? If not then I can't see why an appeal needs to take place. Concentrate on making sure the player is okay and get ready for next season.

Thanks for the replies so far. Regarding points raised -
I�ve looked at our handbook, not much help if I�m honest.

The match in question was a top of the table league clash. So points were important. The opposition are claiming the points.

Our player has fractured eye socket and has since had several operations to fix it. The eyesight to the player is not good and we are all worried about it still.

The player injured was our keeper and the injury happened from our 14 yr old pace bowler getting one to go through and hit our keeper on the eye.

The issue I feel is that the league want all games to proceed regardless and don�t want to set a precedent.

Should we just suck it up and deal with it. Win at all costs etc. or does the league not have any duty to protect the spirit of cricket?

Just feels wrong, I�ve played in many games where injuries happen and people walk off and the game continues. I�ve personally broken a nose, split webbing, taken hits to mouth and teeth, twisted ankle etc. This was a different level. This was a scenario where a long period of waiting for ambulance, player prone , bleeding and concussed from the hit. Really just keep on playing? Interested in people�s opinions i.e. the game continues regardless.

I think the game should have been abandoned.

Its a shame in cricket that you do not get an oppertunity to replay a game if this happens, unlike football where a game is abandoned, it gets played at another date (but they can play in the rain....when we cannnot.

hopefully the lad who got hit recovers. Before you do any sort of appeal I would be asking what you want as a club out of the appeal.
League committee's make decisions on games some go for you some against. Any decision they make they have to bear in mind it's not just your game a precedent could be set for others.It's a minefield for them dealing with tricky situations like this.I have personally been in a game what a player fell and dis located a shoulder, we had to wait for an ambulance to come onto the field.

If I was on your Committee (I'm on my own), and I really don't want this to come across as harsh, but I would be making sure the player is the concern and I would tell any player wanting to make an appeal to the League to drop it and get on with playing the game(next season)

Just my thoughts....
