New T20/100 balls Competition
« on: September 14, 2016, 03:51:45 PM »

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/37365637

Not many details yet but looks like it will be franchise based and run alongside the T20 Blast.

Can't see it happening but how great would it be if they put it on free to air TV?!

Watch the likes of BT Sports bid for the rights or something, if not it'll just go onto Sky Sports. If only it was on free to air television to help the sport grow a little  :(

Come on fellas, we all know this will be on either BT or Sky. Too much money to be made from putting it on subscription TV

It's the way the world works these days.

I know but I'd love to see cricket back on free to air TV, there's some real characters in cricket that could become heroes to young kids, likes of Root, Buttler, Stokes, AB, Kholi, they could be legends to kids like people like Flintoff and Pietersen were to kids 10 years ago. It would really boost participation among youngsters I think.

Pretty sure live cricket hasn't been free to air for at least 20 years.

Channel 4 has been the closest to trying to put cricket on normal TV in recent years.

Having just paid 25 million for the Great British Bake Off thou they will not be in the running.

I mean a cake is a cake is a cake. 25M is some sort of nonsense to spend on some tarts and a Victoria sponge

You would even put up with Mark Nicholas if it was on C4... :)

Why do we need another comp alongside the T20 blast?

Surely one or the other?

To prove the franchise style is better and force the counties to adopt it possibly

Run both pick which one brings the most fans in?

I was thinking the same, more fixtures to squeeze in.

When they mean free-to-air I mean it has to go on one of the big four channels, BBC1/2, ITV1 and Channel 4. It's pointless in my eyes if it ends up on one of the lower down channels like ITV4 (this is what they did with the IPL and that didn't get many views I believe)

Cannot fathom why two divisions hasn't been chosen over this, don't see Somerset/Glos fans travelling over to Cardiff for a t20. Can't help but feel the county games could end up being better supported than the city games.
County champs to end up with 3 divisions to make room for having two t20 tournaments?
