Cambered v/s Flat Faced Bats
« on: September 16, 2016, 03:07:02 AM »

Folks,

What are the pros and cons of having cambered v/s flat faced bats? Is one better than the other in terms of power delivered to shots, directional control, and the durability of the bat face over many seasons?

Most of the bats I own are flat faced and give me plenty of directional control in my shots. I have noticed that my most used flat-faced bat has indented a little in the strike zone, in fact the bow of the bat feels a little enhanced.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Flat faced would make the bats look bigger but also makes the edges weaker due to the sharp edges. Flat faced bats usually have more scalloping from my experience to make the edge size really pop as well.

I hear some people say the cambered face also means the ball deflects a bit more rather than the direct hit of flat.

I'm sure there's more to it but those are my ideas off the top of my head.

in fact the bow of the bat feels a little enhanced.

Before bats were manufactued with a bow, they would become bowed with heavy use. Hence a favourite bat would be said to have a 'lovely bow'.

I suspect it makes negligible difference. Like most stuff discussed on here.

LOL.

I have to make a choice tomorrow between two bats and you can guess what's the difference between the two.  :)

But flat faced means I hit more 6's, right?  ;)

Will a flat faced bat not be as quick through the swing as a rounded face?

I imagine the physical difference is so marginal as to not exist, so use whichever you like the look/feel of better.

I've found that the flat face bats are great when you middle them but not so so much when hitting off centre. Camber faced bats are bit more forgiving and easier on the wrists. Just what i have found.

I prefer round face bats, they are more durable in my opinion.

Do we not all hit it bang in the middle every time so in theory it shouldn't make any difference.  ;)

I am predominantly off side player & play lot of cuts. I feel I tend to end up with lot of edges with round faced bats, with flat face its much better.

I have never noticed any significant difference whatsoever, and in fact have never even thought of it as a possible difference when I bat, and I hit a lot off-centre!

Pick up stick, check balance and pick up is ok, hit sphere with stick.

hmmm....went from rounded face bats to modern style flat faced ones about two years ago. first time I had a flat faced one I looked at it, used it once and sold it on ebay(yes stupid) thinking it was a gimmick

bought another couple of flat faced ones and now they are my match bats.....all 2 of them  :)

can't say ive noticed myself much difference apart from the high edges crack and damage like hell, so lots of tape needed.

don't know if it's in the mind or not but now i'm used to the flat faced ones maybe a bit - the ball seems to go where I expect it to if you see what I mean....especially in defence...

After you've paid for it, I hope.
