I've found cricket clubs either nearby, or as part of every university I'm applying to- but what is it actually like over there?

I'm not looking forward to having to ship my kit across- though I'll be one of few H4L owners over there I guess!

which city/state will you be in? its VERY good on the West coast, Texas, Florida..and quite good on the East Coast (NY/NJ/CT). I've heard good things about the midwest as well

I moved to Washington DC a few months ago and was thinking about a thread like this once I was more settled. Any advice on cricket in DC or Maryland will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for jumping onto your thread @billyb .

It depends on where I get in, but 2 in California, 1 Pacific NorthWest, and 3 midwest.

I was going to apply to Maryland but it wasn't to be

We have cricket all year round here in Southern California. Regular 40 overs season is played under SSCA (Southern California Cricket Association) & local T20 leagues. 99% of pitches are proper turf.

There is plenty of cricket in America these days in all regions (Northeast, Midwest, So-cal, etc.). You can find clubs and grounds in pretty much every major city. Areas where American cricket is lacking:

- Retailers with good variety of kit.
- Coaching.
- Practice facilities (no, gentlemen, baseball cages don't count as good practice facilities!)

So, pack and ship all your good kit/gear. Bring some extras just in case. Lot of us in America are buying our bats from UK, Pak, Aus, NZ, and India.

How many are we talking here? I had had heard about one or two very nice grounds but would be surprised if there are more!

Woodley Park in Van Nuys has 4 international level grounds with 5 pitches on each ground. ICC DIV4 matches were played there last month.

Highland, Buena park are turf too. Only carpet on cement i know is in Riverside & Longbeach.

OCCA & Corona League T20s are all played at School grounds on rolled grass pitches.

Cheers for the advice @DorsetDan! I'm set on moving to the states in any case (family reasons) so I'm not too concerned about that, but the length is definitely longer. Looks I'm going for 5 years really, which is one hell of a long time but gives me time to teach a lot too, something that I'm keen to do. Hopefully it gives me time to work out if I want to live there long term too! There are big differences between the styles though, I agree!
