Picked up a GM Mana at a cricket store near me a few weeks ago and it picked up so nicely I nearly bought it. Travis Head is a nice young player, but seriously has he done enough in his career to warrant a bat with his (engraved) signature on it? Save that for your Kohli/Smith/Warner/Root level of player...

I have a full GM set in same section mate, I wasn't convinced about GM bats but I have 3 for this season and they are a lot better then in the past

Whack the pictures out of these GM sticks @SOULMAN1012 I absolutely love them!

Over gully.  I get your point I assume they are doing it so head is the big name in Australia using GM,  same for de kock with SA, Taylor for NZ and Vince England even though he is the only one not Involved with internationals atm. They have done the signature bats since 2011 I think.

Anyone have any idea what the James Vince Player Edition looks like?

Also any idea if you can contact GM and ask for one of their other sponsored players shape?

If Travis Head uses a regular length blade, I think GM should not name his bat as Mana. It would make buyers falsely think that their "fav" player uses a short blade bat... Despite all the hype around the shorter blade bats these days, I havent seen any international pros using one on TV. Was initially thinking Travis Head/ other pros using Mana were using the shorter blade, but after it is clarified here, even that is not being the case.

Dean Brownie who played for NZ yesterday was given 2 by GM. He was using them extensively in the nets. Not sure if it was one yesterday though. They looked nothing like the off the shelf shorter blade bats mind you, they were huge.

If Travis Head isnt using shorter blade Mana, Brownlie's bat must be regular length blade as well..

I could be completely wrong but I always thought Root used short blade bats??

And he was the reason GM developed the mana before he jumped ship??

This was pretty close to my understanding of it.

Any references to show Root uses shorter blade bat? I doubt it considering similar NB off shelf bat he uses isn't shorter blade  either. Also, considering his height, if he used shorter blade bat it would be pretty obvious looking at his grip which would seem like a Gilchrist type high grip but I see him holding his grip normally.

There's about 0% chance he uses an off the shelf NB though ;)

Root uses short blade bats. There's even a topic on here somewhere with a genuine Root GM bat. Many have said short blades are much more common amongst pros than you realise, would be interesting to know exactly how common. Would also assume GM didn't release a lot of short blades this year because their pros hate them!

@adb club cricketer

Here is a bat made for Joe Root, that @Buzz's mate had.
(How was this post over a year ago? Barely seems like yesterday I was drooling over this!)
http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=33754.60

This is from a mate on Facrebook about Joe Root's gm bats...

Cricketers, Big Bat time! Although I have had a strong relationship with Gunn and Moore for many years, yesterday I was given a treat even by my standards.

I'm writing a piece for a well known Cricket mag on how you can use best practice to select a bat, and how test players contribute to the bat evolution process.

Anyway, yesterday I got gifted on of Joe Root's bats (he's gone to New balance so they had 3 going spare)

The noticable thing about Joe's bat is it always looks so wide when he bats- and I've found the reason- the handle is 1/2" longer and the blade 1/2 shorter- like a mongoose, so the bat is more compact and looks chunkier and wider.

If you look at the pic of the bat standing against the wallyou can see the extra handle length

The grain on this is incredible as you can see- it is as good as it gets., as is the ping and pickup (it's 2-11 oz and picks up about 2.8)

Anyway, excuse the badgery but interesting nonetheless.

On the handle it says JR74, which means it's the 74th bat GM made for Joe.

I also got given one of Watto's- it's very very light, big with a VERY high middle. It is 2.10 on scales with 2 grips and antiscuff so c. 2.8 real weight, surprisingfor a man of his size.

I refrained the offer for a pair of Watto's pads as they'd be knackered.

You really don't notice the 1/2 inch difference.

A few of the kiwi boys use short blades Neesham got into it after borrowing one of BJ Watling's bats.
