I play proper league cricket on Saturdays. The stuff I play on Sundays varies tremendously - I play for a Jewish club on Sundays, and the standard of our squad varies from decent cricketers to enthusiastic individuals with little to no ability. We have to arrange fixtures to cater to everybody, which means that sometimes I'm facing pretty facile bowling. I could play at a higher level on Sundays, but part of the reason I play where I do is to try and encourage the growth of the game within the Jewish community, and also because without it I wouldn't have a huge amount of contact with other Jewish folks (I'm not that religious).
1500 runs only works out to an average of just under 40 so it should be very doable. I've shifted quite a bit of weight this winter so far, so I'm hoping the extra fitness will help my performance. I wouldn't class myself as a good player - I was decent as a kid, when I was playing in the Liverpool Comp, but after uni I had about 7/8 years out of the game. 2010 will be my third full season back, and my second season playing both Saturdays and Sundays - I feel like it's taken a whole bunch of time to get back to any kind of level I feel happy with. The way the ball is coming off the bat in nets so far this winter feels really good though, so fingers crossed for 2010!
